I was tagging those guys cause they got the inexpensive radios. I have a 1,000.00 radio and 250.00 antenna. But they can get u in the right direction. I can help install that's not a issue.

I have this Midland handheld radio:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00000K2YR/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It was less than $90 at the time
It comes with lighter adapter and antenna hook up for semi permanent installation.
You'll need an external antenna (with a cable and mounting bracket or big magnet) for it, in order to get some range.

I like Jerry's set up, small and discreet. I just have to figure out an antenna mount that would work for me.

Edit: there is a version of that handheld Midland (and Cobra) radio without extra wires/hook ups. Way cheaper.
But as mentioned, they don't have much range.

I got a referb off Amazon... it was a referb because the screen was scratched....

Fun fact, I got it installed, the screen was only scratched because they didn't remove the plastic cover that goes on over the screen...

Aside from needing to be tuned, it works great!! (receiving, can't transmit yet)

So far I love it, I can change the colors for night and day, the way I've got it set up, its not in the way and easily accessible while driving.

You remember having to move the rabbit ears on your TV that didn't have a remote? So you could get a clearer picture?
    Same kinda concept.
