you had to ride the clutch for morrison the whole time? Why? I never have. Only rode it for hill starts.

How slow are you wanting to go? I mean, i know your gearing is about the same as mine via our little turtle race a while back. Its pretty damn slow at idle.

No, I didn't ride it the whole way up, but had to quite a bit to get around the corners safely. It was just an example...

And I want to go slow enough that I can go over obstacles without slipping the clutch. :p No where near enough gearing to idle up things.

Fuck it. Lets have a swap party. I'll take your manual and diffs and you can have my 4.10s and auto out of Igor :D

I can idle up a lot of shit in Frank. Or at least feather the accelerator.

Fun was had in Moab, but the truck is parked in grand junction with a broken main leaf spring.

    IMAG0403.jpg

Figuring out how to get it home, and then decided on new leafs.

The axle has already moved back a slight amount on that side. Causing the tire to wobble and a pretty bad vibration.

Probably could drive home, but honestly there's nothing connecting the leafs to the frame in the front. If that very small bit of the broken leaf came out from under the ubolt plate the axle would shift back even further. If that were to happen the axle would be way sideways and could have caused other damage or loss of control.

Risk of driving it seems too high IMO.

I was thinking about it, and I believe the only thing holding it in that position is the half wrap on the second leaf. If that wasn't there, the axle would have already shifted back until the shackle was hitting the frame, at which point it would be undriveable. I really don't think the forward part of the main leaf is clamped under the plate at all.

I'm home. Truck is 3 hours away. I have a Titan that needs a trailer brake controller and access to a trailer an hour and a half in the somewhat wrong direction.

Damn dude. Did you jump it again at the dunes?

Bigger ratchet strap would work actually. But that section of interstate is pretty whoopy..for a interstate. Towing it is probably wisest.

    Sucks to see man.

It's probably not in the safest spot. That's my biggest concern. If it wasn't for that I would leave it till this weekend.

I'm all for Jerry rigging, but the thought of the axle involuntary removing itself while driving down the interstate made me decide it wasn't worth it.

I'm home safe. I'll get the truck home one way another.

Probably not going to fix it till next year at this point. Not sure what I want to do with it.

I had a main leaf break once in about that same spot.
I used two pieces of 1/4" flat stock, about 4" in length, holes drilled in each end and used two grade 8 bolts and clamped the main leaf directly to the rest of the pack. Was able to finish Kelly Flats and drove it home on the highway. Leaf never moved.

Are you silly? Of course I said I was gonna send it.

Yes, but the key word here is OME. I have proper suspension, boxed frame, gussets and shit, etc. Honestly think the leaf was broken before that....

So you clamped it together with the bolts running perpendicular to the leafs on the part where the main is still connected to the frame?

Not sure I want to drive it on the interstate like that, but I'll keep it in mind.

Not really. I've beat on this pretty hard last several years, and built it to do so. One broken leaf doesn't seem to bad in the scheme of things.

Jumping a truck is asking for trouble, but I've given myself a pretty good chance to do it with as little breakage as possible. I would still say that jumping a truck without all the gussets and nice suspension is unwise.

:anonymous: I took your advice and put the pedal to the floor.

Yes, but I never rearched the main spring.
