    Start collecting the parts :)
If you got some free time cruise craigslist for 4Runner and tacoma parts. To do the swap cheap (and the longest part of swap) is to collect the parts. So if u can start hoarding parts, one day you’ll have em and installing it wouldn’t be as hard as u think.
Don’t give up! I just got my ME degree and did the swap on a 1-2 week span over summer when I didn’t have class. Coulda done it over a winter break too.

Glad to see this thread is still getting some looks.i hope people can still find some useful stuff here. The swap was fun and I miss that truck. Loving my 2002 DC 4x4 though.

How does one bypass all the cel codes for the automatic if the option is to use the automatic ecu?

Are you talking about running a 5 speed with a auto ecu? If so, there's nothing really to bypass. The truck doesn't run any differently, other than a code for auto trans temp, and then codes for three shift solenoids that aren't there.

Yeah...but there are those who need to pass inspections. And those cel lights won't help...

Oh ok, that makes sense. That is not an issue down here in Mississippi. You can use the harness from a manual truck, thats the same year to get rid of any lights. Sense inspections here are not a thing anymore, I never looked into what is involved for swapping harnesses as well as the transmissions.
