I respect the DIY ethic on this forum and the folks who are doing the Plastidip to their wheels as an affordable alternative. The powder coating/tire installation & balance was slightly over $500, but well worth it for me. I didn't want to deal with the peeling issues and got my 15" OEM Chou Seiki aluminum alloy wheels with the center caps powder coated. I like the sleek look that matches the black paint, no peeling/chipped issues, and are is to clean.

I might be selling these wheels as I recently purchased the 16" version of the same wheels since I need to install a slightly bigger set of tires with a higher load index. If anyone is interested in them, please PM me.

Do you remember what size decals you ordered? They seem to range from around 60mm to 66mm?! Thanks!

Is this paint or Plastidip? It looks great! I have the same wheels and would love to do something like this.

    The wheels were painted professionally.

The wheels were stored in outside shed for several years.

So of course the alloy started to peel.

And the rubber for the wheels needs to be replaced.

So instead of buying new wheels I had them painted.

And I think it's pretty much decided I am going with BFG KO2's 265/75r/16 tires

Will post when I get them mounted

    None yet:(
This looks great! Did you plastidip the whole wheel or just the steel color red parts? Also does plastidip have a color that matches the stock Tacoma off road wheel color? I noticed it's not black, but more of a him metal. New to this world so forgive the dumb questions.
    Thanks, chris

I got my stock wheels powder coated diamond black. I am happy with the way the look and I saved money on buying new wheels. Sitting on bilstein 5100's set at .85 with BFG KO2's 265/75/16.

Sweet was the power coating and did it dry in a day or few hours?

    Looks sick by the way!

Thank you! The powder coat took all day to dry. Started the powder coating at 9am and finished at 4pm. It cost 400 bucks with tires mounted and balanced.

I am about to get my stock TRD sport wheels powder coated too. Would you have any recommendations on the color? Mate or diamond black? Do you think it would look good and better than spending 800$ for a new set?
    Thanks,

I personally think diamond black gloss looks better than matte black for wheels. When the car is clean its nice and glossy. When you go offroad the dirt turns the wheels into a matte color. Go with diamond black gloss.

IMG_3297.jpg IMG_3295.jpg Thanks dawgs for this thread. I did the deed. Loved how it came out. 20$ spent instead of 1600$+. A little about my dip. Jacked up, plasti dipped, 6coats black plastidip, 2 coats gloss focusing on the lines and depths.

You took the wheels off to dip? I’m guessing since the lug nuts are still chrome?
