I took a little drive up to skyline in the Pecos today to have a look at the world. 11,661 at the top of Elk Mountain.

Found it forest road 646 off highway 63.

I'm just happy to be having some adventures again. Woke up to a chilly 46 degrees today... it sure made my cup of coffee go down nice.

You may not get to use that sleeping bag much more this year, but I think some day trips are definitely in order.

That's the one. Route finding gets tricky near the top, but a good GPS unit with an updated map will get you there on the first try.

More backroad cruising and came across this bridge in western NM. Not exactly sure when it was constructed but this road was at one time as sort of an "underground " route between a couple uranium mines and mills. The road was almost completely on private property so the police didn't have jurisdiction on it therefore the semi-trucks could run as much weight as they dared to, even pulling double full length overweight trailers. The uranium days are long gone but this short road and this bridge remain, connecting the middle of nowhere to just east of Prewitt, NM and I-40. The bridge is completely metal including the roadway which pops and creaks as you drive across, much like walking on all metal scaffolding.

Nice post, Ron. It's always cool to see old bridges, and learn about their history. That one looks like it could handle some serious weight.

I've been getting out with the family, and got a few good shots in the last month or so...
