Mother's Back to Black does work short time on my 2006 Taco black trim but after some rain it seems to wash off and now showing some fading again. It's pretty evident on my bed caps. I have a bed roller top that slides down bed to cover it. I would have to dismantle it if I were to paint my bed caps. Any suggestions or comments? Thanks.

    Don't buy cheap detailing products.
Most products you find at run of the mill stores like Walmart and Autozone are either very poor quality or actually harmful to parts of your vehicle (stay away from Armor All).

I'm a big fan of Chemical Guys products. I've tried so many of them and have yet to be dissatisfied.

They make a gel trim dressing that is amazing. I use it on all my black trim peices as well as my tires. Makes everything really black, its dry to the touch, and lasts months.

Now with all detailing products, if you don't use car shampoos or run your truck through an auto wash, the product is going to get stripped off so you'll have to reapply.

Best advice is don't use auto car washes, handwash only and your products will last a long time.

    Agreed!
I'm fortunate that Chemical guys is a 5 minute drive away.
I took their detailing and polishing class and couldn't be happier.
Most of my stuff is from Chemical guys, however there are some items that I don't like.
Try VRP, it's the equivalent of an armor all and leaves the black trim black again.
Apply VRP with a sponge to all interior vinyl/plastic surfaces.

I would go broke living near them.

I've spent $400 this year alone on their stuff (I needed new pads and microfiber towels and a foam cannon).

Haha I've spent more than that this year already buddy.
They have a new foam cannon from Torq with chemical guys logo on it, I wish I would've waited and purchased that one.
It's suppose to be a lot nicer than the previous one they have.

    yep..
I've tried the back to black, but I like the Turtle wax trim restorer better. Lasts much longer and no streaking. I'm going to try VRP as suggested when the TW runs out.

Tried Mother's back to black but I like Chemical guy's VRP better.
I must say I don't like chemical guy's tire dressing on spray can, when I spray it it goes back to my paint and myself like a big cloud.
I like Mother's tire dressing which acts like a foam, you simply put on and let it dry.

I once used Back to Black on my Honda Ridgeline. It did the trick, but like you mentioned it doesn't last forever

Thats the one I got. Unfortunately my pressure washer broke before I got to try it out.
Plan on buying a compact pressure washer just for detailing next spring. So I'll enjoy it next year.

The longest lasting off the shelf item is the Armorall trim sponges for an actual item that makes the trim black again.
Better than back to black, trim restore, etc. At least in my experience.

I use CG for all of my polishing and sealing needs but have never tried the VRP.

I concur that mothers tire foam is legit.

This stuff is the absolute best of any "black restore" product I've ever used. It definitely takes more skill to put on than the others but I bought and used it back in april and it still works, all my black plastic I used it on still looks shiny and new. Just make sure whatever day you plan on doing it is 100% rain free because water will ruin it if it doesn't have time to cure first.

With all car care products I cannot emphasize how important it is to CLEAN everything as best as you can BEFORE applying and restoration products.
I used to clean my plastic interior with armor all, bad mistake! Cleaning product and restoration product are two different things.
I use an interior cleaner to wipe off any dust, stains, gunk, etc on the surface before applying any restoration products.
Cleaning the surface beforehand is just s important as applying the restoration product.

one last thing... VRP stands for Vinyl, Rubber, Plastic
It's great for all of those materials on the outside and inside of the vehicle.

Not sponsored by Chemical guys, just love their stuff ;)

I had a custom Tonneau cover made and when I picked it up I told the guy I was going to Armorall it. All of sudden he got this huge frown on his face. I said whats wrong? He said "let me show you what Armorall does". He took me over to a caddy that he was redoing the interior on. The caddy wasn't very old but seats were all cracking. He told me the poor guy used Armorall regularly. He said fabric, rubber and even plastic need to breathe and Armorall seals the pores.
