You can get away without one, especially on easy trails. As long as everyone keeps the truck behind them in sight, the group will naturally stay together.

that's proven difficult to teach people. always keep the truck behind you in your view, if you start to leave them honk at the guy in front of you to stop.

especially true on steep hilly ground, you often have to keep wider intervals. Then put 10 or 15 trucks in the mix and it isn't unlikely to get strung out a half mile or more....Then it becomes more difficult to deal with a back marker that gets stuck... I've done larger groups without radio's, but it is FAR better to have a good communication between front of the line and the rear. Not to mention the fact that there is some of the funniest stuff you've ever heard that comes across the airwaves.

Like Brandon @ RRG....Even WITH radio's we lost him for a while. One wrong turn on those hills and multiple trails....

Just placed an order from @HeadStrong Off-Road ! Who would have thought that a plate bumper and skid plate would lower the front of my truck so much? 5100s and 887s are on the way! Hopefully they show up Wednesday and I can get them on and truck aligned before I leave Friday night. I don't think I'll be doing much wheeling at Harlan if I don't get them in time. Can barely fit my fist between the top of my driver side tire and fender.

I will be showing up very early Saturday morning with everyone's shirts/hats/hoodies. Something came up and I wasn't able to get Friday off of work.

Wow...My 885's lost less than 1/4" with same bumper (literally) winch, full skids (albeit aluminum skids) sliders, and a few other minor details.

You might want to change that to 886 coils!

886's are a higher rate spring (than 885's or 887's) . They pretty much overwhelm the rebound dampening on 5100's. Marie (@Headstrong) will advise against that combo. It creates a very harsh ride. You get a jackhammer effect from 886's on 5100's.

886 or for extra weight. I have 888 which is like the 887 but for 3rd gen. I lost 1/2" just from sliders and a CBI front skid.

The stock springs are 540# springs and the 885/887 are 590# I'm assuming that the 887s are just a hair taller than the 885s. The website says 5mm difference.

Yep....But 887's are still too stiff for 5100's. At one point, I believe Headstrong wouldn't even sell 5100's/886's as a set.

Yes, 888/887 is a taller 885. The weight will crush them. The 886 is a heavy foil so keeps the lift.
