Why don't more people go for 235/85's?

Had to look those up. Thought the image was altered. Nope. Makes sense when you think about it. More pounds per square inch.

Just installed Cooper Discoverer STT PROs on my 2016 DCSB Off Road 4x4 (235/85/r16). It is something to get used to visually but I have always wanted to try a narrow tire since I had my 2002 Grand Cherokee 10 years ago. The cool thing is that it looks great from the side. My only beef is that the factory rim with factory offset brings this skinny tire in the fenderwell a little too much. I may not do anything about it, this truck basically sits monday - friday.

I just came from a built up 2011 Wrangler with 37's so this is a pretty big departure. I'm not going to do anything much more than overlanding and some mild to moderate trails.

I'm actually installing the Bilstein 6112's lifted only to level out the front and put in 5160's in the rear. Pretty much going to leave it about stock height. I ran this truck bone stock in the river bottoms and was really impressed with the factory setup. I figure a few tweaks will get me right where I want to be... for now.

Have any pics? I'd like to see what they look like. I waffled between 235/85 and 285/75. 285s come with other issues that 235s don't. I went 285/75 D rated. These are my summer funtime tires and will come off around October.

I don't regret getting 285s, but I can't help feeling 235s would have made life a little easier.

I run those same tires and I do some fairly serious trails. 37s are nice, but 32's and a spotter can do the same with some patience . The biggest issue is the driveshaft. The break-over angle on 32s is not so good. That is the only reason I have the dream of 35s in the back of my mind.

Heck 255/85 would be easier for sure, let alone 235. R U v6?

    Here we go
These are definitely Mud Terrains, they drive like it and sound like it. The only reason I didn't go BFG-bro, was that the STTs in this size are a little taller. Haven't flexed them but at least at full wheel lock and up on a curb, no rubbing. Mall crawler status. I won't get her dirty until I do the Mojave Road early next month.
They are skinny... Wowzers. But im leveling out the front end with Bilstein 6112s and 5160s in the rear so at stock-ish height it doesn't look too bad.

This is all shorter term build until I figure out if I am going to 35's or not

You'll love them offroad! And yes, the are skinny! Make sure you rotate every 3,000 or they will cup bad.

My upgrade using the 235/85R16's (31.7") is a little different from most - 5-lug Tacoma that came with the Corolla (jokes) spec 215/70R15's (26.9") originally. To achieve this also required a full replacement 3rd member assembly with 4.10 gearing. Original was 3.31 gearing, optimal for the 235/85R16's is 3.91 gearing. I'm also running an Eaton Detroit TruTrac LSD.

Rims used are aftermarket 16x7 5x114.3 pattern with +40 offset intended for early 2000's Wranglers and JK's. Tires are the Pro Comp 235/85R16 AT-Sports. This is primarily a road truck, with the occasional foray on a farm trail.

Been running this size for years now. Goodyear All-terrain Adventures with kevlar. Between myself and my buddy we have probably a couple thousand offroad miles on this size and make of tire. Most of that is southwest desert driving. Not one issue. But you know...skinny tires aren't cool and stuff. :blahblah:

Just purchased my third set of 235 85 16's for my truck. I like the AT3's from Cooper a lot, but wanted to switch it up. Really wanted stt pro but couldn't justify the cost. I went with the Yokohama go15. These days I spend way less time off road than I used to and these have the severe snow rating. Excited to see how they perform this winter.

Found four 552 out the door. Just need to get them mounted and balanced. Still should be under 650 if I bring the wheels and tires to the shop.
