Altitude plays a part I'm sure but mostly it's all the added weight. Bumpers, skids, sliders, winch, frame plates, not to mention all the camping gear I take with me.

    A few tweaks
Nice! I'd like to tackle a spare diff I have. Was this your first? Got any tips?

Did you use solid spacers or crush sleeve?

I tried about 15 years ago while installing an ARB. It didn't end well, but now I'm older and smarter (and have more tools)...

Pretty straight forward gear change. This was my first toyota but ive done a few Ford's. Great website for info on Toyota diffs: www.gearinstalls.com @ZUK know's his shit. Couldn't of done it without his expertise.
I used a solid spacer, that part took the longest. I finally was able to get a decent cbpl after tearing it down about 10 times. Having the right tools makes a world of difference ;)

    Front is done!

    20171019_172449.jpg

    More notes.

    20171019_172543.jpg

Total pain in the ass, could of used a bigger selection of shims but the main issue (also why the locker only cost the price of the gears) was the carnage of the broken stub shaft.

    20171019_172742.jpg

Had to break the whole thing down to get the shaft out and to clean up all the metal bits.

    20171019_173049.jpg

    Shit vs new.

    20171019_173202.jpg

It did some internal damage but the good folks up at ARB said I should be fine, so I'm crossing my fingers.

Got everything in today, it all works and no leaks. Can't really say how the power has changed yet as I've been driving like a grandpa for the break in period. I can tell that my shifting pattern is different, much quicker to 3rd.

So I just did 4.88s and locked the front as well (elocker already). I programmed my scan gauge so that it would read the correct speed. The speedo is 13% off  So I'm really interested in what you are going to do to correct the speedo. I guess just replace the speedo gear that is driven by the transfer case?

I know there are lots of threads, but I find the most important info is from 2009 on ttora with broken photobucket pics.
Anyway, sub'd to see the outcome of that. Probably end up copying you haha.

I was able to find the right gear for my 2WD by looking over the lists. Make sure you read all of it to help understand what will work on your truck.

So I was reading thru and you said you were going to do a Jetta seat swap, is there a write up about doing that or just something of your own design?

I’m new to first gens so if this is something I should just know I apologize:anonymous:

No write up, I'm going to fab it up. Ripped apart another set of trashed taco buckets for the frames, going to weld them to the Jetta buckets.
