I've narrowed my choices down to the following:
    Superwinch Talon 9.5SR
    or
    ComeUp Seal gen2 9.5s

It will be going in my CBI Moab 2.0 front bumper.....I can't decide.

Any input or experiences are appreciated.

A small handful of select mods.
My experience is all ComeUp. I have a 9k DVS and love that winch. The way ComeUp designs their winch is flawess. Everything is sealed and waterproof and the new wireless technology in the Gen2 is simply awesome.

Hey hookers. I have the smittybilt x2o gen2 10k wirless. It's great...pulls hard, doesn't get hot, waterproof, great warranty. I chain my truck to a tree and used a snatch block to pull out another decent sized tree. Winch and let it sit, winch and let it sit, run the water hose, winch and let it sit. It did it. Root ball was about as big as the hood when it came out

Local guy here was out a couple weeks ago with his family wheeling alone in the snow (2nd mistake). First mistake was buying a Smittybuilt winch. His was brand new, never used, installed correctly. Failed almost instantly and left him stuck in the cold with his wife and small kids for hours in a remote location until people could get to him and help him get out. Heard way too many stories about failures with the SB winches. If you have to go cheap, you're better off with a Badlands winch from Harbor Freight.

Smittybuilt has a horrible reputation for a reason. Low price and warranty aren't going to get you unstuck when the cheap winch fails.
Don't throw good money after bad. The poor man always pays twice. Get something that is proven performance and quality with low failure rate.

My first choice is the COMEUP Seal Gen2rs. I have this winch on my Cruiser and had another one on my Tacoma. Fantastic winch! Made me a COMEUP convert after having a couple Warns in the past.

I dunno man y'all can flap your jaws about it all you want. Mine has never failed yet:notsure:. Not defending sb by any means, but I have seen plenty of warn products fail...

Not flapping jaws. It's great that your winch has been working out. That's a good thing. No doubt the Smittybuilt doesn't have a 100% failure rate so there are bound to be some that work out just fine for a while. Like with all Smittybuilt products, the quality control is highly suspect and materials are typically lower than the competition. That's how they keep cost down. As I said, I'm glad you have one that's working, but facts are that there are many cases of the SB winches failing prematurely.

So it's a bit of a gamble IMO. Do you want to worry about whether or not your winch is going to work when you really need it, or have total confidence in it? I like a bargain as much as the next guy, but winch is one of those pieces of gear I'd happily spend a bit more on to know I've got a quality, reliable tool.

Bought my first Warn over 40 years ago. On my 3rd now. 3rd winch on 17th 4wd..(VR12s currently) Mine have been used HARD on the trails AND on our farm. One electrical issue. (Solenoid on1st one) Fail rate MUCH less than other brands. Great warranty. Extremely reliable. As mentioned, warranty is of little value if your low buck winch leaves you stranded. EVERYONE I know who has a Smittybilt and uses it hard raves about the warranty. Warn owners just talk about how reliable they are. Still, they have lifetime warranty too.

Sometimes "cheap" is not such a bargain.

I'll stick with my Warn thankyou

Warn or Comeup pick your poison. I only chose Warn because they’re somewhat local and their track record is second to none.

I hope you're not chaining your truck to a tree from the rear? I've heard that's a good way to tweak your frame.

Chained it up to the reciever hitch shackle. Yeah I know the risks. I am smarter than the average redneck i can assure you. Plus it was a a smaller tree and i ran the water hose a day to soften the ground up. Were not talking about a 40 foot red oak here. And on top of all that. the receiver hitch cross bar will give way a looong time before a frame will. A drunk guy hit a me once while pulling a trailer, he hit my mirror, then the corner of the trailer almost head on, at 65 mph. Ripped the hitch right off, left the two mounting plates still bolted and didn't hurt the frame at all. I had a Chevy half ton.

I get what you're saying, I've just always been told that pulling that way can "Tweek" your frame not necessarily break anything.

Probably so, especially if the pull is not perfectly straight

In case anyone is interested, toyota of austrailia offers HiLux trucks with winch bumper and winch as a factory option. The bumper is almost identical to an arb, and the winch is a warn 9000 lbs with "toyota enhancements". This includes waterproof connectors on all external wiring, waterproofing the motor, plastic sungear is replaced with steel, and a toyota Overload Safety Interlock. Just thought I would share, I found that interesting.

How old was winch? I know they had a lot of problems with the first gen winches but haven’t seen a lot of failures with the newer ones.

Here. This is for all the internet forum commandos who don't own a smittybilt, but yet think they know everything about them.KIMG0295.jpg
Full winch respool from the set screw in the drum all the way to the hook swege collar. Foot on the brake, all 4 tires locked. Only time I let off was to re center on cable. Now stop posting about how much other winches suck, get off y'all's lazy asses, and go out wheeling and use yours.
