Took a picture of my license plate?

I took a right on a somewhat busy intersection then saw the lane I was in was going to end because there's construction and a lot of cones, so I had to merge into the lane that wasn't coned off. That's when I notice a red 3rd gen tacoma right behind me. It's probable I cut them off, but I had no intention of doing so. They follow me down the road for about 15 minutes until we get to the next intersection. We stop in the lane that continues on the same road. I notice in my rear view the driver was holding up his phone taking a picture of the back of my truck. They then switch to the right turn lane and I see the passenger waving their phone in the rear window.

My thought process is this: either they saw another tacoma and decided to take a picture, or they were mad at my cutting them off.

Is it possible I'm gonna get a ticket? What can people do with a license plate?

A picture of a license plate means absolutely nothing to anybody except the person who takes it.

 

This is what I've learned... There is a large percent of the population that calls the police about every traffic incident they encounter. 1984. If you drive fast down the highway, it is likely somebody has actually called you in. I was amazed at how many calls they got according to a friend whom is a state trooper.
