My oil and filter were changed at 5000 miles. They will change it again at 10,000. Then again at 15,000 and finally at 20,000.

After that, I will have to pay out of pocket. It's Toyotacare, and it's cost was included in the dealer sticker price.

    Some things to consider;
    -normal vs severe duty
    -time vs mile interval
    -what's the filter rated for

It all depends on the dealer and sometimes which advisor you talk to. I had mine changed at the dealer at 5,000 and 10,000; they told me I had no oil changes left. I was back in at 15,000 for something else and said I had 2 left. WTF

I do regret letting them change it at all; overfilled the first time, undefilled the second time. If you want something done right...

That's for 2 oil changes and 5 tire rotations?

I avoid the dealer like the plague.
Donuts are old, coffee is decaf, techs and salemen are con artists. Im lifted so that voids everything apparently.
Pay for my oil changes out of pocket at the local Valvoline. Full synth every 5k. In & out in 15min. Dealer is a half a day event.

My strategy as well. Since I retired I just don't put the miles on the truck. Time instead of mileage.

My service manager, a friend and neighbor, said that they use Mobil 1. It's re-branded Toyota. Maybe true, maybe not. I changed mine at about 4000 miles myself.

Not so. I discussed this with my service manager, and Toyota cannot void your warranty for lifting unless the modification causes the problem, and oil changes obviously would not be affected by lifting. There are a number of discussions about that on TW. True though, that dealers take a while to do work.

I did it at the deal. It was cheaper then. While I do a lot myself, I'm not as young as I used to be.

My Tacoma is the first vehicle I've haven't done my own oil changes in over 40 years of car and truck ownership. I guess the "free" service (yeah, I know it's included in the purchase price, not really free) got me hooked. Anyway, I must be getting old and lazy, because I did go for the pre-paid plan extension up to 45K, though I paid under $300 ... everything's negotiable. I thought it was a reasonable deal if you don't do it yourself, and it made it more convenient for a few warranty and recall items, just bring it in once when it needs the service anyway. But I won't renew it, it's still more hassle to take it to the dealer than doing it myself.

    I agree with you 100%.
Though if you happen to get a dickface service manager, im not gonna waste my time arguing about this and that.

On the toyota websites brochure, there was options at 5 years and upto 75k but I'm not sure if they meant it when you first buy the truck only or if its and extension.

What oil is everyone running for their tacomas? I’m looking to do my first oil change after the break in for peace of mind and I’m looking for an oil my truck will react nicely to. I drove a Subaru sti before my Tacoma for about 3 years and those cars are really high maintenance. That being said, I’ve been really taking precaution when it comes to oil and fuel to run for my truck. I was ONLY able to run 91 octane in the sti so it feels weird now giving my Tacoma anything under, but I also want to take advantage of the fact that I can now save a little $ when pumping.

Then there's fine print in the ToyotaCare brochure: https://www.toyota.com/content/ebrochure/toyotacare.pdf

"1 Excludes those items listed in the Maintenance Guide under Special/Severe Operation Conditions."

Basically ToyotaCare doesn't cover all maintenance your truck may need during the first two years.

Regardless of mileage we get at least four service interval visits for two years. This translates to roughly two oil changes, maybe three if the mileage falls just right in the two years.

I've only put about 5,500 miles on my truck after a year. They did my oil change earlier this week because it was close to the year mark. My service rep told me to bring it in every 6 months regardless of miles. He's really great and he used to be a service technician.

You can tell how good a service department is by how long people have worked there. The guys in the service dept at my dealership have been there 6 to 8 years or more. So far I've had a great experience with this dealer. I'd be leary of a place that can't retain service reps.

Your dealer has to prove that your lift caused the problem to void any part of your warranty. Moss-Magnuson act. My dealer gives me a free loaner if they're going to have my truck over 1/2 day. And I don't have them do hardly anything.

Mileage is 25 k or 2 years, you may have a service dept, willing to look past the 25k, but not all will.
