Easy money and only about 45 minutes. You will need this for your 35’s.

I was a little hesitant at first, but a little bit of liquid courage and a little time on my hands. It really is easy.

Updated redo, don’t like chrome so bought a 4”x12” silicone coupler and cut it to length and slide it over the chrome intake tube.D8954A86-F441-4D01-A208-1B1DF76A1491.jpg 4E4FF1B9-C073-4167-A26F-3CAEB43ADA83.jpg

I'm planning to do this to my truck. I just ordered the parts. I was looking at my cowling though, and a couple of questions came to mind. I have seen notes about fresh air into the cab being cut down when the engine is at high demand. The cowling itself is plenty large enough to move enough air for both, but what about the inlets into the cowling? The places where air gets into the cowling don't look large enough to me to flow that much air. The 4.0 flows roughly 72 CFM for every 1000 RPM. I haven't corrected for volumetric efficiency in that calculation, but for our purposes, that is close enough. At 3000 rpm, that would be 216 CFM, 288 CFM at 4,000 rpm, and 360 CFM at 5,000 RPM. At redline of 5500, it hits 396 CFM! Then add in whatever the fresh air system is demanding. That is a LOT of air trying to find it's way through the relatively small openings into the cowling area. The cowling system was only designed to handle the relatively low flow of the HVAC system. I think that if any restriction exists in this scheme, it is probably coming from this. I'm going to see where I might open things up a bit into the cowling without inviting dust in. I also know that the vent on the drivers side where air is supposed to get in, can get pretty clogged with snow. Has anybody else looked at this?? I have a feeling that the make up air is being being pulled up through the HVAC vent. Not ideal.
I'm also going to look into some creative baffling to control whatever water might find it's way into that area.

There is also holes into the fender areas .meant for water to excape. But im sure it helps to draw air in. I never saw a difference in the cab air competing fir air like mentioned not saying it dosnt as i can test it. But by ear it sounds the same before and after. Engine runs fine even in snow.. if your going to open anything i would do it under the fenders. Not up top.

Sorry if I missed it, but is there a distinct advantage to not using the stock intake hose?
Will it just not reach to the new location?
Or is it also some heat resistance?

    Thanks in advance

I doubt it will bend that direction. It's a formed hose

Someone did use the stock hose. I thought they posted a pic here.
Its not as clean looking but can be done.

If it'll bend and reach the way you need, there'd probably still be a benefit to losing the "ice cream scoop" on the end of it which restricts the intake to an opening with less than 1/4 the section area of the hose itself. Made me wonder why the hose is so big when I first saw it.

How is the noise in the cabin with this mod? Can you hear the engine a lot more?

Not a lot more but it is more noticable. My friend said it sounded closer to her V8 Ram.

took a few pis today of mine. i ran this for about a yr before my truck went out of commission due to an collision.
4" to 3" pipe. fuel hose and black RTV . worked flawlessly, minimal extra noise from engine and no other signs of change in air flow from before the install. some others mentioned ac air flow problems so i paid close attention to that before and after seemed the same. maybe due to 3" vrs others ran bigger, not sure. but it works its a clean install, and no big dorky snorkel for people to laugh at. My wife isn't a fan of the dorkle look as many people feel the same way. myself i could care less on looks as long as it works, and dosnt break the bank.
