Nutrition information is in. Registering for UPC codes tonight (I never knew how ridiculously expensive that is). Those are the last two elements to be able to finalize the labels, then it is a go on production!

    Very cool.

Shouldn't the UPC's be around $250 each for less than 10 products, plus renewal annually?

$250 + $50 annually for 10 codes. We will launch with an 11 oz and 1.5 lb version of two rubs, with potentially adding a 5 lb option in the near future. That is 6 codes right away. If we do the dust, that is a 7th. Shirts in two colors and three sizes each is another 6. We don't need more than 10 at the moment, but might want the headroom later. That headroom jumps to 100 codes and is $750 + $150 annually. Gotta pay to play, I guess.

Ah right, shirts and such. I was thinking you'd stay under the 10 range for now, but like you said, play big or go home.

I think we're a ways away from needing more than 10 barcodes, but there doesn't really seem to be a path to upgrading your standing with the regulatory agency to go from 10 to 100 without ending up creating a situation where you have two annual fees or you abandon your original 10. Nutty. It kind of forces you to plan for additional scenarios. If there were a ~25 code option, I'd gladly go that route. I wonder if there is a way to sell off a lot of unused codes?

The more I learn, the less I know about all of this stuff. They didn't teach me this stuff in Entrepreneurship .

Yeah, the levels are stupid, like 10, 100, 1000. I know you can buy them all over the place, but you have no guarantee of getting an unused one unless you go with somebody like GS1. So, people do sell them but it's a likely mess to be involved with. The whole thing is a pita but once it's done it's yours forever (long as you renew) so no more dicking around. Ramp-up is always a total bitch with stuff like this. Don't get discouraged! Keep your eye on the ball /prize / boobs, whatever. :D  :hattip:

    5. Boobs again for good measure

And, yes, that is what I gather regarding the barcodes. We've been very particular about everything up to this point, so we might as well do the barcodes right as well.

I had a discussion with my Managerial Accounting professor this evening. Talked for about 20 minutes and she had a lot of insight in to business start-ups, which was pretty cool. She mentioned something about being aware that there may be unexpected costs that I could incur. I said, "Funny you mention it. Do you know what it takes to get a barcode for a product?" I kept the bitching to a minimum .

Were you in for the regular or the spicy? I only have regular on hand and haven't packaged yet, but if you're ready, I'll package one for you now and make it available for you to order.

Hoping to have spicy this weekend.
