Thought this was interesting, next wave of 3d printing.

Adidas is opening manufacturing facilities in the US and Germany using this tech to produce soles for training shoes. US factory will produce 500k pairs a year.

Read this one a year after release,,was quoted in a session of Congress later on I believe.

Glad I kept my points style distributors,,but don't tell ANYONE.

It's not a matter of "if" it will happen,,, but rather "when",,,and do we let them achieve that goal?,,or do we have a choice?. The short answer is a big fat no for some. Let see what the next page says I guess. All we can do really.

I read a biography of Neil Armstrong- truly an exceptional human.

I remember a passage relating to the preparations for the first lunar landing- everyone was working long hours. Neil Armstrong was practicing with the LLRV and it crashed- an hour or so after the event, people were looking for him- he was back at his desk working on calculations- that story always stuck with me, I wonder if this is the video

    Thanks

Though I still think Systems Engineering was the right decision for me, Astrophysics was my number 2 choice and I still sometimes wonder what might have been? If you happen to land the right gig at NASA, JPL, or reach a tenured professor research position at the right college or university it can be quite lucrative but, otherwise, sadly there are a lot of astrophysicists driving 25 year old Honda Civics with mismatched tires and a pink door trying to make a living teaching as an adjunct professor a couple nights a week at some lessor known school. Not that there's anything wrong with that . . . just a struggle!

Along with the Mars Rovers, the Cassini probe to Saturn mission has absolutely fascinated me and there are a number of things to see here and elsewhere I thought I would share for anyone that cares? Sad to see it go, but the amount of data acquired from this one mission, discovery of new moons we didn't even know existed, as well as learning all about Enceladus perhaps harboring organic life below its frozen water surface, this mission will no doubt be studied for many years to come.

    enjoy . . .

Drove right by the Ligo Hanford Reservation site many times, on my way to Tri Cities. Very dark and quiet out in Benton County,,,Just song dogs and crickets. The irradiated bread basket of the Pac Northwest. That's why we are, the way we are(headjerk, eye twitch). Reactor B was on the same spot. Hope there coffee cups don't give off a blue glow. Might have to stop in one day and soak up some waves.

Well, we had two launches of our rocket this summer in attempt to crack the 100,000ft mark that hasn't been "officially" crossed by any collegiate student team to date. The only collegiate group to claim they did used some very questionable techniques to verify their altitude, which meant that the officials hosting the event where we launched our rocket have not been willing to give them the official record.

Anyways, our first launch went great up until the sustainer motor reignited. The propellant had pulled away from the motor tube casing which exposed significantly more propellant and thus caused the motor to over pressurize and blow out the snap ring holding the motor in the rocket body. Apogee was about 35,000 feet.

The second launch was much better. Both motors fired successfully, and we were on track to easily pass the 100,000 ft mark. Buuuut something went wrong at altitude and the recovery parachutes deployed with the rocket still coasting at a high rate of speed, around 1,000 mph. Apogee was 80,000 feet and top sped was in the Mach 2.5 range.

All in all it was an amazing project to be a part of, and I'm hoping this years team can finally cross 100,000 feet.

This is an article written about the event where we launched our rocket the second time, and they spent a good portion of talking time with us, the Oregon State team.

Man, if that thing opened up and was the planet killer doomsday machine from the original Star Trek series, it would not surprise me.

Or just a giant space poop from something even more scary?
