I'd be looking at my lenses before deciding to switch systems... Do you have any favorite Nikon lenses that you could continue to use with a newer body? that would weigh very heavily.

Most of the folks *I* know who've moved away from Nikon/Canon have gone to Sony's mirrorless Alpha stuff, which encompasses full frame, and uses an updated version of the Minolta 'Maxxum' lens mount.

That's kinda where I'm at. Invest in lenses, be it DX or FX, or switch systems completely. I don't have any real high quality lenses: Nikon 35mm 1.8G, Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 non-OS, Tamron 11-18mm 2.8. These lenses wouldn't hold me back from switching like if I were already invested deeply with better Nikon glass.

70-200 would be the only one that would truly transfer to FX. Currently shooting a D7000.

Renting a Nikon 85mm 1.4 D this weekend for some portrait work and I'm sure I'll want some better glass after using it.

You could switch systems and use an adapter to bring over your lenses until saving for new big glass. Works if you can do w/o AF for a bit. I shot a Fuji XT-2 after switching from Nikon. Glass is great on Fuji’s and the primes are well priced. I carry the 16-55 with me everywhere though.

Shot the 85 1.4 yesterday and it's a super nice piece of glass  Heavy as shit though.

Going to look at some other options when I return the lens tomorrow. The backfocusing issue with the D7000 is really aggravating and the AF is pretty meh compared to current offerings.

Do you like the layout of the Fuji better than a traditional DSLR? Specifically the aperture on the lens vs dial.

A recent trip. Not super enamored with these. I didn't dedicate enough time to photography.

On my trip through Bishop, saw a huge sign in Mountain Light’s gallery window saying they are going out of business.

For those that don’t know, Barbara Rowell started the gallery as a place to feature her husband Galen’s Work. Along with the pilot, the couple was tragically killed in a small plane crash in 2002 while returning home from the Bay Area. The family has kept the place going since then. No reason for the closing was given.

Damn. I was just there two weeks ago and didn’t see that. I love his eastern Sierra photos, it’s a lot of what inspired me to at least try!

Anyone do any ballroom/partner dance photography?

I'm looking at upgrades to my T2i so I'm going to rent a 5d-iv and my fiancee wants me to shoot some dance couples that she teaches, so I figured I'd rent additional gear, if necessary, at the same time. I'm thinking it might be similar to wedding photography gear, and I see some kits designed for that on borrowlenses that include lenses, but I'll be using my own lenses (most likely only the canon 28-135mm, assuming it's wide enough on a full-frame). Does anyone have any suggestions for techniques or equipment to rent? I'm thinking I might just need a flash, but maybe not or maybe there's some other gear that would be better.

Thanks in advance! This is a whole new type of photography from what I'm used to...

Are you shooting in low light? If so, shutter speed and ISO will be important. A fast lens will help as well. I'd suggest the 28-70 over the 28-135. The 5d will allow you both high ISO and faster shutter speed.

Idk if you'll need flash but if it were me, I'd be thinking about a speed light and softbox combination. Maybe off camera/remote just to make the lighting better. All depends on how the dance studio is already lit.

    Good luck and have fun!
