Im going to try this Friday, Im going to use two endless ratchet straps and if it does not work I found a small shop with a spring compressor.

So when you release the tension on the ratchet does it violently decompress?

    Workin' on it....
Sometimes you can find Brannicks on Craigslist for a decent amount if you keep your eyes open. Seems like a good investment for a couple of hundred bucks to have the safety over the widow maker spring compressors.

I was putting the spring back on as I was done with my rebuild so I was sucking it down just enough to put the clip back in. I don’t recommend doing it honestly had me pretty worried a strap would slip or ratchet mechanism would break.

    Aren't the spring clips interchangeable?

The OTC clamshell is welded with a pin that is supposed to keep the spring in the clip.

Springs are very dangerous, I wouldn't recommend any of the ratchet strap methods, or even the cheap harbor freight spring compressors.

The OTC style spring compressor from Harbor Freight isn't strong enough (I tried and bent two).

I used to pay a local independent wheel and tire shop $10/shock to take springs off, and $10 to put them on. I recommend going there when they aren't busy, take cash, and tip the guy doing the work. Your non-amputated fingers will thank you.

Yeah, I’ve decided to just buy a used branick when it pops up. Might be a long time before a deal pops up.
