Let's See Your Dogs!!

Jake is very punctual when it comes to meal time. This morning, I was a little behind schedule and he thought I needed a little encouragement.

 

"Maybe if I make a few noises he'll get the idea"

"Ok that didn't work. Let me look away bashfully. That'll guilt him into feeding me."

"Ok final plan. I'm just gonna jump on him. That'll work for sure."

 

Taking the babies for a ride today to the mountains. They are beyond excited

 

That's about right. He moans and grunts first. Eventually, he either nudges me in the elbow or jumps up and licks me like he did here. I think it's funny.

 

One of ours is like this! If he doesn't get dinner by 7:30PM he starts with the whining and intense looks that escalate into him basically jumping into your lap like "I know you see me and hear me!". Then about 30 minutes later he wants to go outside and go do his business and will start whining to make sure we know we aren't meeting his timeline. Then he comes back inside and about 9:30 he thinks we should be in bed so he starts up again and usually doesn't stop until we go into our bedroom or o put him in his crate. He just needs someone to tuck him in essentially. He's almost 8 years old and has never done this until this year so I don't know where it came from.

It's kind of funny because I know he judges time based on when my boyfriend gets home from work. Before Harvey came in my boyfriend came home at like 3PM(he usually gets home about 7)and about 3:30 the whining started. He just thinks "Dad's home! Time to eat!"

 

And he’s home finally. Docs all said he’s healthy and really strong. Just a couple weeks of taking things easy until staples come out.

Rusty hasnt really seen to much winter weather. He got a bit of snow last year but never any of the sort of hard surface ice crap. Well that changed and boy was he confused by it.

Sorry for the pictures...Rusty wants to play so opening the door for pictures was out as he just came ot him...so had ot take them through the kitchen window.

First he was just curious by it so he was doing a sort of scratch at it thing


Which would then lead to him rolling on it. Must have felt good


Didnt let him do it to much as i dont want his paws getting cut up but was funny to watch.

 

Check out an inflatable cone for him. They’re a drywall saver for the inevitable hits your doorways will take when he’s up and moving around more. They allow them a larger field of view as well. Our guy was much happier with the inflatable vs. the plastic cone. Don’t bother with a fabric cone. Too easy for them to flip back.

 

I bought one of those for my dog anticipating his eventual (looking over my shoulder to make sure he's not reading the screen...) neuter. I wanted to get him used to it and he keeps getting it off. I think it's the Kong brand. Any advice on having him keep it on?

 

Never was an issue with our shepherd to be honest. Not sure what brand the one we bought was, but it had a Velcro closure that seemed to hold pretty strong. It would take a fair bit of pressure to get the two ends to seperate. How’s yours held closed?

 

It's velcro as well. You fill it with air... He's still a puppy, so he's not overly tolerant to anything being on him. I've been gradually introducing things to him for short periods of time, making it as positive as an experience possible.. Still, no luck.

 

Dunno what to say. Ours worked like a charm. Maybe he was just happy to not have the plastic cone of shame on him? If he tried to scratch, or ran into walls, the thing would just spin. And he seemed to enjoy using it as a pillow, although I’m not sure how that didn’t put a strain on his neck. Good luck with yours! You might be stuck going the plastic route.

 

american bulldog? my last dog was an american i loved that thing like no other.

 

Tony has been having to wear the cone of shame for two weeks now, and we went with the fabric cone. Ours has 3 plastic bars in it that keep its rigidity, but can be removed if necessary. Around the neck, there are 4 elastic loops that you feed his collar through, and that's what secures it to his neck. MUCH more comfortable than the plastic cone, and didn't rub his neck raw.

I believe he is part AB and part lab. I good friend of mine was breeding ABs about 10 years ago. That's when I first saw the breed and fell in love with them. He turned out some great pups. Wish I could have got one.

This is Woody, Tim's first male. He was a catch dog (CD3) used in boar hunting. The most alpha dog I have ever met. Saw him control other dogs with just a glance. He was about 120 lbs, head like a bowling ball.

 

Riley is the same way. It’s a good thing most days.
