I know there's tons of RTT threads in here, but I'm looking for advice/photos on placement of my RTT once I purchase and install. The most common (cab or canopy) position seems to be off the side.
I'm hoping to do a lot of snow camping, and naturally have inclement weather up here in the PNW, as well as having a dog. To me it seems logical to run the RTT off the back so that you can enclose the lift gate and canopy within an annex (which I'll be using).

Does anyone happen to have setups of theirs, or any personal opinions on this positioning? Cheers and thanks in advance!

Pro's and con's to both. I run mine to the side and use it as a shade structure to sit under. But it does require more free space to set up than opening it to the rear. Not a big deal when out in the wilds, but if you do occasionally camp at campgrounds, your choice of sites is more limited.

@uurx - Thank you so much for grabbing these photos. I've found a few similar photos via my search, but this helps an incredible amount, especially giving a perspective on how much space will be available under with the tailgate down. Cheers!

Awesome, thanks for the input! Defiantly some good points here as far as space with camp spots. I was thinking about the length that it would add out the back, but it would still be way shorter than having any trailer attached.

do note that the tent pictured is a tepui ayer, this is one of the smaller ones only being a 2 person tent
the bigger models like the 3 person autana or kukenam or the 4 person XL versions will open up a good amount more

Yeah, good point! I'll be sticking local with CVT and most likely doing their 2+ size...so it should be the same, if not a little more room.

The bigger question is how to encapsulate the rear of the truck and have a tight seal between the bumper and back of the shell....without open air into the elements

Very true...I know I'll have access to the canopy, but I know it won't be truly sealed. Maybe once I have it all set up I could blow the dust off my sewing machine and create a solution...
