Engage 4x4 and put it in first and try to drive forward, but not to the point of burning the clutch. This has worked for me in the past. (note: in my case, it was in the middle of winter and freezing outside. Could be something else in your care since you are in CA)

I had to replace my whole set-up. "If" you have to I highly recommend OEM in this instance. My cable froze up inside the housing that it was in. Also - the Bell Cranks on the rear wheels need some help sometimes. I put some spray on white lithium grease on mine and they work like a charm now. So does the OEM handle cable and E-brake cable.

Bell cranks like to seize in the brackets

How long has it been like this?? most often not using it causes this.

I wonder did your cable break??

I would think if the cable broke it would release.

Sounds like the cable is frozen/rusted in the cable housing...also bellcranks will stick...

Depends just where the cable broke .

I have seen some where the cable was frayed enough it would not release.

When it broke outside the sheath .

Really only one way to know get under and look
