It depends a bit on how flexible your 1/0 is. The 4 studs on the contractor are pretty close together. It took a bit of patience to get all the cabling situated with the 2 ga I used. Good luck with your project.

Hey everyone, I have some concerns regarding my ARB air compressor. I wired it up myself, I’m no expert when it comes to wiring but I followed the instructions and didn’t have any issues with the install. Fired up on the first go. A couple of things though - this thing is loud, like obnoxiously loud, is that normal for these units to sound like it should be double, maybe even triple it’s size? The other red flag has been the air pressure, it doesn’t seem to be very powerful. I can’t even dust off the engine bay with with it. Anyone have any thoughts on what the issue(s) might be? I should also say that I wired this up to an sPod. I appreciate any help in advanced!

 

Which model do you have, is it the twin?

The single has a lower flow rate of 3.08cfm at 0psi. If it really is louder than it should be and it doesn't have the correct flow, my first guess might be that something isn't right with the wiring.

 

I was thinking that it may just be the smaller size of the single but the noise is what I can't get past. After reading a bunch it sounds like the first step would be to get a reading on the voltage. I don't have a meter, so I'll work on getting that tested.

 

The MF-1050 I just bought is way louder than the small portable I have for work. It may be the nature of the little beasts. My work compressor was chosen for lightweight/quiet operation though since the previous one made a racket.

 

The more solid the mounting plate the less it will resonate but as tinny as these trucks are the only really solid metal is the frame.

 

Makes sense. I mounted it to the Slee Offroad bracket and it sits right behind the passenger side headlight. I'll double check to make sure that bracket is in tight.

 

Mine is loud also but not more than I expected. Its comparable to any other small portable air compressor that I've seen/used first hand. I have mine in the rear driver cubby in the bed and with the cubby door open, its loud but nothing crazy.

as far as air pressure, is the intake port on the compressor clear and free flowing? I ask cause I was an idiot and forgot to take off the plug and add the filter the first time I powered it on and I wondered why it sounded like it was struggling.

 

Are you referring to the little red (or was it black?) plug? If so, I specifically made sure to remove that before install because I knew it would be near impossible to reach once mounted. I'm going to disassemble it and look everything over just to make sure.

 

I believe it's red. Yea some people have posted issues and they forgot to take that plug out lol.

Just out of curiosity, why'd you mount it behind the headlight instead of the dead space on the rear passenger side of the engine bay?

Are you talking about the compressor? Because ARB makes a mounting bracket specifically for that compressor and that is where the bracket is designed to be installed.

 

Slee Offroad also makes a mount for just behind the passenger headlight.

 

That is correct. Slee Offroad makes the mount; not ARB.

 

I also used the Slee Offroad bracket, the dead space towards the back is where I'd like to place a second battery. And I'm in Bend @westnc20

 

Oh ok. Slee makes one for the dead space too that's why I was asking
