I have thought about putting new rims on my Tacoma and was curious if anyone had spray painted their stock rims?

I am sure that it can't be as good as having new rims but might be a temporary thing to do until I can afford the real deal.

I painted my buddys and he ran them for about 7 months while he saved up for his XDs. It worked fine for what it was and didn't look half bad

Do you remember what kind of primer and paint you used?

It works just fine if you do it properly- prep is key. Anything that will scratch the paint after it's fully cured would also leave marks on powdercoat, but at least with paint you can touch up for a few bucks.

You really need to prep the crap out of this to make it work well. Start by stripping the wheels with this stuff. Then prep with some appropriate primer and paint. I used a self etching primer from Rust Oleum. Part number 249322. Follow that up with some paint like the Dupli color wheel paint and it will be awesome. Be sure to use lots of thin coats...you can always add more.

^Don't do this (use stripper) unless you really know what you're doing. Otherwise you'll fuck up your wheels.
    Lousy advice.
