2nd Gen hitting bumpstops

So I have a slight issue I want some opinions on. I have XII's and '16 rear leafs with a 1" block (not at all that low, probably under a 3" drop) and over highway expansion joints or speed bumps I do occasionally hit the low profile Energy bumpstops. I've even added back the Hellwig 550s to try and stiffen up the rear, but it still just barely kisses them which kinda drives me crazy.

I've seen some people talk about cutting the stock bumpstop mount and relocating the lowpro stop to the frame. Taking a look it doesnt seem like that will gain me any more travel. How have people addressed this issue without resorting to a notch?

I'm considering removing the 1" block, because I also tow my Miata and definitely want to not be constantly hitting the bumpstops when loaded down. But I'd like to believe there's a way around it.

 

I have a 1st gen lowered srunner, with 4 inch blocks. It hits the bump stops only on large bumps or when on the freeway with a large dip. I'm thinking about going to air struts. Where I can pump them up to make it stiffer.

 

I was thinking about airbags as well, however the clearance between my axle and the bottom of the frame is only something like 2". I could not find specs on airbag systems and what the minimum clearance required is, but 2" seems like a very short distance and I really doubt any off the shelf bag would fit.

I might sink more money into helper springs and see if a set of Hellwig 1251's or LP-15's could stiffen up the rear enough to prevent bottoming out. I've read that the LP-15 springs are progressive due to the two spring system, so that could maintain ride quality when unloaded and the anti-squat when driving hard or carrying a big load.

 

Cut the bumpstop brackets off and if it still hits just notch the frame, that way you never have to worry about hitting again

 

I Dropped my prerunner with TR kit and had same problem . Felt like was hitting bump stops ( with 3 cases of water in rear ) but think it was actually hitting overloads .Notice with certain amount of weight didn't feel like it was hitting . Ride was smooth .So i concluded was hitting overloads.
Any way picked up

hellwig 980 full helper spring and problem solved for me .The way i adjusted it truck raised about a 1/4 in but the ride was better .

 

Hmm... I never thought it could be the overloads doing that. I'll have to check it out again, maybe try to mount the GoPro down there just to conclusively see what's hitting.

As for helpers, the 980 series isnt compatible with 5-lugs, so I think the next best thing is the LP-15 (which is rated for a 1500lb capacity, versus 2000 for your 980s). Thanks for providing that info though. I'll report back with what I find.
