There's supposed to be a little sliver of gray rod that goes into the motor. That was not present when I tried to put the motor on, so I ripped the entire front end apart and am going to rebuild it after work. You are probably correct about the way LEGO printed it. Similar stuff has happened to me before. If it is still the same way when I rebuild it, I will remember to take photos this time before I tear it apart and send them to you.

When I built the Extreme Adventure 4x4, which was my first LEGO kit in about a decade, I built the front differential backwards; This meant that the tracks rolled in opposite directions from each other when turned and the truck couldn't roll on the ground. I had to tear the entire front diff and transfer case apart and rebuilt it. Cost me over an hour!

That place has been there for years. I bought a hardcover copy of Under the Dome there for next to nothing, back in like 2012 or 2013. With all your huge chain bookstores going under thanks to Amazon, the generic used book store is probably going to be doing even better...

Damnit, now you've got me curious. I was wrong, it's not a 5L axle, but a 4L tan axle with center stop. I don't see any grey piece that goes into the motor, but the 24-tooth gear below the motor output gear is on a dark grey axle. Is that what you're referring to?

This is one thing I've noticed a lot lately, and I'm not talking about even the newest Crown Vics...

I'm talking about 2007-2014 Tahoes, 2007-2017 Expeditions, 2011-present Explorers, etc...

The same goes for Tahoes and Expeditions used by fire departments and EMS...

None of them have the backup camera in the usual spot above the rear license plate.

I would think that a backup camera would be of great benefit to a LEO, especially when he or she has to abruptly floor it in reverse. Even more especially if he or she is in a very tight space.

On my way to work today, I did see one of those new aluminum-bodied F150s. It belonged to the Warrington Township Police and was marked. It had a backup camera in the tailgate handle assembly. I also believe I've seen some 2015-present police Tahoes with backup cameras.

That brings up my second question. Do police cars have rear-facing dashcams (not for the suspect in the backseat, but which are pointed out the rear window or mounted to the roof and pointed backwards?

Also, the oldest police car I saw that was in still in operation was in Guthrie, Oklahoma; This was back in March 2014. It was a 1996-1998ish Crown Vic...

Okay, that grey axle does not go into the motor.

    Those are someone's own builds

Then why was I having so much trouble getting everything to fit? Every time I pushed the motor back part of the axle assembly would come off. Also, in the instructions, the gray rod protrudes slightly from the gear...

Okay, now I see what you're talking about. Part of that axle does stick past the gear, as seen below in step 153. However, that is then covered by the motor bracket in step 163. If this isn't lining up or the axle protrudes too far, I'd double check the module it's built into (starts at step 94). If you've already figured this out, I'll shut up now.

Problem I had was that the axle didn't protrude far enough.

Ah, gotcha. In that case, this assembly might be one hole too far forward.

Edit: yeah, as best as I can tell the front of the steering assembly on yours appears to be two holes from the end of that long dark grey beam instead of three:
