Yeah I try to keep from flooring it until I'm at least out of my neighborhood.

Nah. My Sport does that also. The high idle is a little high! It makes it less than fun to crawl backward out of the garage.

The Wife's Forester is the same though.

Once it gets to normal idle (usually after the first stop sign), life is good.

    Yep....
I’ll seitch to other than floor and auto light goes off and to fan/heat setting
    It is a Cdn model
    I figured was common
Though I believe once gets up to temp allows change but have to confirm
I’ve tried not to let it bother me but I’m confused why
Maybe because of temp sensor would be mislead?

After reading this thread yesterday, I actively paid attention to my Tacoma warm up. My truck sat outside all day and it was 47 degrees when I left work. Set the temperature temporarily to 85 and always leave it on fresh air and started driving. Takes me a little ways to get out of my work parking lot so I use that slow stretch for warm up. Within 4 minutes and 1.1 miles (pretty much all side street driving) my vents were blowing what I would call fairly warn air. Seems about the same as my other Toyota vehicles.

Does anyone actually get the auto climate control? I thought it will stay on till you reach the temperature your set at. Doesn't seem to be that way tho.
Also even if I put it on floor, I always get heat through the top left vent. Not the other good but ya a consistent amount through the left one. Anyone else?

Total BS, this may have been true when cars used carburetors...But with modern electronic fuel injection the ECU and wide band O2 sensors actually lean out the mixture to prevent this. So no you are not running the engine in a overly rich condition.

The biggest reason that is suggested to not let a vehicle warm up is auto theft.

That vent helps keep the side windows from frosting. The passenger sides the same. Also put cardboard in front of your rad and it will help with warm up and increase your mileage when it’s cold. Bring the engine temps up a bit and it doesn’t work as hard to stay warm. We’ve been consistently -20 to -40c in southern Alberta this winter and mine heats up decent. Only issue I’ve had is my cab filter plugging with snow but that’s a whole other issue. 39EB5FE7-CE01-4052-BEF3-5A2D94258239.jpg

Only read the first page, but being from Maine, many mornings below freezing and even a sreatch of below zero. I use the same method in the winter as the rest of the year. I get in, push clutch, turn key, put it in N, let off the clutch, count to about 20, push in the clutch and drive slower for about 2 miles, turn up the heat as it just starts getting warm, and then drive it. The only thing I do different in the winter is sometimes I pump the clutch as on the real cold mornings it's hangs some.

I added the seat heaters to the group buy on wet oakie (think that's what they are called) seat covers, there has been a group buy every spring and fall since I've been here paying attention.

I Never use auto climate. I just crank the heat then dial it back to between 20 and 24c and dial the fan back a few clicks. I usually just run foot and defrost on fresh air. If you use recirculate it doesn’t get rid of the condensation and windows frost more.

I’m in Texas...so “cold” mornings are never colder than a few degrees below freezing. No big deal. But I still drive slow until I see the temp needle begin to register...about 5 mins after start at the most.

Mine does fine even in -30 celsius weather just start it take the snow off and drive it. Its going to warm up faster if you you just drive it. Put seat heater to the max and voila. Having it plugged on a timer 1hrs before i leave helps a shit ton of course

Just so happens that was the temp when I got home tonight. Clutch was sure stiff. My biggest beef is the frosting windows at this cold. I have to take it off foot heat every once and a while just to get windows cleared up.

Little trick if you run foot heat crack a window down just a little bit and run the AC to which you should do anyway in the winter. Empty the water out of your mats to.

Also live in frigid climate with Auto CC. I leave it on auto at 22 degrees (room temperature, Celsius). When cold it doesn't blow (fan off) until midway between the first 2 markers on the engine temp guage, presumably in an effort to get engine to running temperature ASAP before robbing heat. Even in my old vehicles without Auto CC, I would leave the fan off until that needle started lifting.

Set at 22 degrees, it will blow hot air, and back off heat and fan speed as the cab warms up. There isn't any difference in the heat coming out set at 22 vs Max while warming up the cab in my test this morning.

TL;DR - I leave it at room temp on Auto, does it's job. Only playing I do with the controls is if it's that -30 weather and the windows keep fogging up.
