Walked away from SR I ordered. Almost regretting it

What was the outside temperature when you test drove? When it's cold out, my clutch sticks for a few miles, once it gets going it's not an issue. Interestingly, it seems it had to be colder out for my 09 to stick versus my 17.

While I think when you order a vehicle, you should be damn sure about what you want in it, issues with something new that greatly drops driveability due to something that you'd use hundreds of times a day, while being told it's ''no problem,'' would make me walk away also.

I've driven enough vehicles with lousy clutch systems or issues with them and it really becomes tiresome very quickly and one soon starts to hate driving it.

I cant tell you how times I was put through the ringer trying to buy a new or gently used Tacoma recently. The prices are ridiculous. I walked away several times but got the deal I was looking for by taking a written dealership offer to another dealership and letting them make a counter offer on the same truck. Before it was over it made the difference of about $1000 on the deal I got and lower interest rates.

Dealership A had the truck I wanted and offered me a deal.

Dealership B tried to steal the sale and gave me a better deal and would locate my truck I wanted at Dealership A. They gave me a written agreement with my trucks VIN /Stock number.

Dealer A then offered me a better deal than Dealership B after seeing the deal B was offering me and knowing it was for the truck they had on their lot. I caught grief for doing this but oh well.

Also know what rebates and other incentives including interest rates are being offered. Dealerships are reluctant to tell you those things and I have heard they can apply them for themselves after a sale. Salesmen are snakes in the grass and I felt pretty good knowing I was playing them against each other and I got the truck I wanted at the price I wanted.

It is incredible the number of publishing mistakes Toyota has had on this subject. They must have some intern type this stuff up and not have anyone double check them.

We are probably the only people in America on the edge of our seats about the fate of the 5 speed manual in the 2.7 Tacoma.

It's dead. You can't build one on Toyota.com with the 2018 specs that are available. I suppose that could change but right now it's not even an option.

You can build out a 18 taco on the yota page.

The window for deals on this configuration is pretty much gone. Sure, if you find the right dealership it may still happen, but the chances are slim at this point.

Sounds to me like you don't NEED a truck, and that a better driving experience is more important to you. If that were the case for me, I probably would have turned away from it, too. Then again, I needed a light duty truck to replace my well seasoned '94 ... and the SR 5MT has filled that role quite adequately.

I just can't wrap my head around why you would consider a 6MT TRD, when price is what seems to have you the most butt-hurt. Then again, perhaps you are just thinking with your fingers, on the internet.

I'd also like to add that my clutch will stick a little, if I launch my foot away while it's planted to the floor. This is not something that will ever happen in a driving situation, so I say it's operating as intended. Your other thread prompted me to see if I could get it to stick, and it did @ 36F this morning. Driving was perfect, however. It also did the same thing 65 miles later, warming up had no effect.

When it's super cold out, though ... yeah it'll be sticky no matter what until things warm up a bit.

Yeah, it sure is weird ... but still very drive-able if you ask me. All 6 of my previous MT's did the same thing, but the Taco is probably the most noticeable, from what I can recall.

I can pull my foot off the clutch as fast as I can in the Forester, and it comes up just as fast as my foot. Same with my old 92 Toyota and every other clutch I've driven. Except a broken old bronco I once drove - had to put my foot under the clutch and pull it back up, and 3rd gear was broken. This reminded me of that bronco in a way. I don't see how you can get used to that unless you never press the clutch all the way to the floor. Feels weird af.

Here’s the thing. If you brought this to the dealerships attention, it would be fixed. Probably a slight adjustment somewhere. It d finitely would not have been a deal breaker for me.

I had the 6 speed sport. It was a 2016 and it'll probably feel less sluggish than your sr 4cyl but your forester will still be a nicer vehicle. My Tacoma still felt sluggish to me and that was coming from a Civic Si. I ended up trading my 16 Tacoma for a 16 Subaru WRX and let me tell you I have zero regrets.

You did the right thing by walking away.

I used to impulse buy cars & trucks and it would just give me rationale to sell/trade and buy new again 2 years later due to wanting something really different.

10+ years ago I quit that bullcrap.

I covered all my needs and most of my wants with a new Nissan Frontier 6 cylinder 4x4 6sp manual double cab.

The truck was fun to drive and was a rock solid vehicle for me. Loved the thing.

Four weeks ago I went went truck shopping to replace my then ten year old Nissan. I really liked the 3rd Gen Tacomas and loved the SR5 6 cylinder 4x4 automatic. Truck drives much smoother than my beloved Frontier. I'm also getting 3 mpg better mileage average.....every fill up has yielded over 20 mpg.

I catch myself looking back at it as I'm walking away in parking lots. I love the looks of it and the midsize truck is perfect for my needs.

I'm not a wealthy guy and simply can't afford to buy something that I don't feel highly confident of getting 10+ years of solid service and happiness. I have an 8 year 120,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty on this Tacoma and it's performance more than meets my needs as a daily driver, hunting & fishing truck.

You did the right thing by walking away. Buy the truck you want with the options you want. The last thing you want to have is regrets early on. Best to avoid anything that you know is gonna aggravate you right away.

One of the things that began to be a problem for me in my manual 6spd. Frontier was legroom.

I'm 6'4" and my ortho doc recently told me I'm over due for both knees being replaced....and my right shoulder. Not even 50 years old and my years of football and a couple falls while hunting have about wrecked my OE joints, lol.

Working long hours and driving home had my knees grumbling during the 40 minute commutes.

Yesterday I made the final 311 miles of a road trip non-stop in my Tacoma. This wouldn't have been possible if not for my comfort.

My son was along on the trip and he's 6'9". He had zero problems with legroom & headroom. He slept the last three hours of the trip and said he was really comfortable, too.
