Hey guys, tax returns are coming soon and im looking to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Problem 1) my current diff is geared really tall, ive got the factory 3.15 diff and im constantly searching for gears when i go uphill.

Problem 2) as stated in the previous sentence, ive got an open diff and i want to get an elocker. ive got the V6 8.4" (8") diff and i dont want to get an lsd or a autolocker as i drive through decent snowfall every winter.

    Proposed solution)
    http://www.carmonkeys.com/1998-TOYO...2-Pre-Runner-Without-ABS-Diff-Lock-3-91-Ratio

    or

    http://www.carmonkeys.com/1998-TOYO...2-Pre-Runner-Without-ABS-Diff-Lock-4-10-Ratio

i can get a prerunner axle for a pretty decent price from this site with the gear ratios in considering, how straight forward is a rear axle swap? Has it been done? Any threads or pointers anyone might have for a project like this?

Both links are diff lock. It would say "without diff lock"

I'd go 4.30 if you were gonna go 285/75/16s or bigger. My truck doesn't like inclines. I also have a good amount of extra weight. But just if I had the chance I'd like to go 4.30

Note taken if I can find a rear axle with that gearing I'll definitely jump on it. From what I can tell the only difficult part of this swap would be mounting the leafs and fabbing shock mounts?

My understanding was they are a bolt on upgrade. Besides the wiring. But I'm not sure.
    Disconnect the drive shaft/shocks
    Jack it up
    Disconnect the brakes/lines
Take the leaf spring bushing bolts out and roll her out
Put the leaf springs on the new axle and roll her back in.

I'm sure if I'm wrong someone on here will correct me shortly lol

Yup and that's the only reason I figured if start a thread for the swap. If it was 5 lug to 5 lug I'd see no potential hurdles

If you're swapping complete axles the only hurdle you'll have is 6 lug on the rear 5 on the front.

Thats not really an issue in my eyes, i can easily replace my wheels and fully plan to. If its straight swap then ill probably be moving forward sooner than i originally planned
