Did everyone that owns a 2nd Gen get a warranty enhancement notification from Toyota recently?

"Toyota would like to advise you of an enhancement to portions of your Toyota New Vehicle Limited Warranty as part of a finally approved and implemented class action settlement.

Toyota has received reports regarding frame corrosion on 2005-2010 model year Tacoma vehicles."

    Blah blah blah....

"If perforation of the frame from rust corrosion meets or exceed the Rust Perforation Standard, the frame will be replaced at no cost under the terms of this Warranty..."

I'm getting my truck back tomorrow with a brand new frame done under this new warranty program. If you have not gotten a new frame or think you have rust issues take your truck for an inspection.

What is the "rust perforation standard" how rusty does it need to be?

10mm hole or bigger will get you a new frame. If you don't have one then you only get a crc.

Look around esp by cats & mufflers - the heat plus road salt = holes in frame. Mine was hidden by muffler - tech found it - experience counts - the only rust I had because I took care of the frame - couldn't be happier - got a new frame, new brake lines, new brake fluid, new antifreeze etc, etc.

I was told by our local dealer it must have a hole all the way through the metal from rust.

I received the letter yesterday, but it doesn't show Iowa listed in the cold weather state section?

    WTF?

I think the "Cold Climate State" list is really "Cold Climate Where They Salt the F Outta The Roads". The North-East U.S. is especially egregious in this respect.

Does Iowa use road salt in the winter? Once upon a time, I lived in a place where they never salted the roads but instead used pumice or some other ground-up volcanic rock on the roads when it snowed (there was a nice volcanic field to the north east, so that was convenient). Made vehicles really dirty, but didn't rot them out either. Also, didn't work too terribly well unless you repeated frequently. But you win some and lose some.

I'm in the process of buying a private sale, 2010 in NY with some rust but nothing too serious and definitely no holes as far as I can tell. If I bring it in for inspection is there a guarantee that they'll do the CRC or does it have to meet a certain requirement to get the CRC as well? Also, if I get the CRC do they grind out the current rust before coating it or should I do that before I bring it in?

Heck ya they salt the roads in Iowa. I don't understand why they list OH, IN and IL but not IOWA?

I guess I just need to call me local dealer and have them look my 2010 over.

I just got the letter. Iowa uses salt, sand, salt-water brine. It eats everything from steel to aluminium. I am curious as well why Iowa is not listed as a cold climate state. But I think I rather it not be coated at this point as not to cover up and hide suspect areas of rust on welds.
