If you do this, use the permatex high temp thread sealant on the fittings, I tried to use ptfe thread seal tape and they all leaked. You have to let the thread sealant setup for 24 hours I think, but I don't have any leaks now.

It's the wix base I linked from fleetfilter, you can get any base you want, there are a lot of 3/4-16 bases out there, I think the B&m base is that thread size. I just suggested it because it's what I used. Most of the atf filter kits you see online use a 'PH8A' size filter which is 3/4-16. It doesn't matter where you mount it as long as you get the flow direction right.

So for flow direction it would look like this ? And the green parts would use the plugs?
I have loctite 545 which I think would work good for sealing threads as it did wonders for my oba set up.

And the filter that you linked

The loctite should work as long as the atf doesn't have something in it that will break it down, I haven't tried anything other than the high temp thread sealer for atf applications so I can't say for sure if anything else works or not.
    That looks right.
Look closely, it has flow arrows on it. Fluid should flow from outside to inside. Clean fluid comes out the middle of the filter through the threaded part and returns to the transmission. You can use one inlet on one side and an outlet on the other, which would be best for where you're putting your filter, or you can put the inlet and outlet on the same side like I did.

Cool wasn’t sure if it had to be on the same side. I will order the filter/base. Did you use barb fittings ?

Not excited about installing it though. Over trans fluid for a while lol

It might help you squeeze a little more life out of it. I used a barb fitting for one and a flared looking fitting for the other, that's all my local napa had in stock. I had to get two adapters to go from 1/2 to 3/8 to fit the base Iirc. The barbs were 3/8 npt and the base was 1/2 npt, best I can remember. The hose barbs looked like this: (both were brass I think)
    IMG_6535.jpg IMG_6536.jpg
I prefer the one that's flared like the OE lines, but they both work fine and don't leak.

I looked, the fittings I like are a "beaded barb" type.

Do you put the lubeguard in after your final fluid level check? And to be sure, this is an additive you put in and leave till the next service?

Awesome. So a 10 oz bottle should be about right?

Guys , do not use an inline filter that is used in the cooling lines in a transmission application . Its the wrong place for a filter . You need that cooler flow
Let the filter in the bottom of the transmission pan as well as your magnets do their job . Add some extra magnets to the pan . You can even place magnets outside of the pan . Cooler flow is extremely crucial to trans function . You risk blinding cooler flow when a filter is installed in one of the lines
Just because they sell it doesnt mean you should use it

You do know what happens when one of these filters blind off ?
I will admit I use them on customers vehicles but only for a 2 week period after the transmission has been overhauled . After the 2 weeks is up , I have the customer come back in to have the in line filter removed . Cooler flow is vital in an auto tranny . These in line fillters if left in can destroy a transmission in seconds unless the transmission temp is carefully watched ....tread lightly guys

These coolers see what 10-20 psi? The filter I'm using has an 8 psi bypass valve. The transmission temps on my truck are fine, often under 100° on my short trips. Even towing at highway speeds this summer at maximum capacity my transmission was 180° or less. I've seen 200° a few times under extreme loads at low speeds. I'm not arguing with you, I'm just saying that I have no negative experience with them and have seen no evidence of anyone else having issues either. Even some Hondas come from the factory with an inline filter. It would take a massive transmission failure to actually clog an engine oil filter anyways. Your coolers are a far larger restriction than a decent sized filter ever thought about being. If a teeny magnefine filter can be installed inline then I see no reason why a full flow lube filter would be an issue? It's rated at 7-9GPM at an unspecified pressure, but at idle a transmission cooler line flows like 2-3 GPM maybe? I've been running a remote filter for nearly 5 years now, no issues. But to each, his own. If you're scared of a filter with a bypass, you can get a filter mount/base that has a built in bypass but the ones I've seen are typically set at more like 20-25 psi bypass pressure.

I also have my ultragauge alarms set for the atf temp, 200° at the pan and 215° for the torque converter. 200° on engine coolant as well. If my transmission suddenly starts to overheat I'll know it. I've only tripped the UG alarm for atf temp once, but I was towing hard and slow uphill, as soon as I got to the top of the hill the temps came right back down. Ive drained and filled the pan since then, fluid is still cherry red.

Side note, the atf warning light on the dash comes on at 302°F, way too high... it's kinda like the oil pressure light, it only comes on if you have basically no pressure and the damage is already done.

These aftermarket in line filters have come a long way .
Not arguing with anyone but " I " will never keep one installed in cooler flow as a permanent fixture .Wrong place to put a garbage collector even with a bypass
Sticking to my guns here as I have seen these filters over time jammed full of steel including the bypass .
If the steel and debris get caught by the magnets and filter in the pan , you have a chance to save the trans . If the inline filter blinds off , the complete trans is roasted .Far too many bypass issues in my past and too many plugged filters for me to say ok to the in line filter ,
If you havnt had an issue with in line filters , continue supporting them , but I will never use them as a permanent fixture and will always make recomendations to only use them for short periods of time .

You my friend are one of the few who keep your eyes peeled . I wish all Tacoma owners were as detailed as you when it comes to the way these Tacomas function
