Exactly! Pneumo/Hemo thorax can be caused by many different types of accidents and accidental self inflicted GSWs are probably more common than most would think. I know most of us practice firearm safety but imagine sending some .45acp into your thigh because of an accidental discharge while holstering. If your like me your probably shooting in the middle of nowhere and the only thing that's gonna keep you from being dead in 20 minutes is a tourniquet.

Bump for an awesome thread that needs to be more active.

OP Thanks for your efforts and time putting it together with the info.

OP and any of you knowledgable First responders/medics should keep this going.

Adding the links to good products you all suggest is also helpful, especially to those trying to put together their own kit.

That's awesome brother that's good training!
Fortunately... or unfortunately most 1st responder systems are adapting due to recent events. We have a really good relationship with FD and PD where I work and have had some great drill recently regarding setting up joint FD medic and LEO teams as units assemble on these MCIs.

The main thing I take away from that article is if nothing else have at least 1 tourniquet in your glove box. Especially if your a hunter, target shooter, 4 wheeler, beer drinker:drunk: lol. Accidents happen to the best of us

Our training definitely stressed buying quality tourniquets, as there is no government standard/certification. The internet is chocked full of fake CAT tourniquets for sale, and the fake ones may not work at all (or very poorly) in an emergency situation

Subbed. I have a very basic First Aid kit in my truck for Bee stings and scrapes but looking to upgrade after a recent incident in work. I've been through the Red Cross class a few times being that its required by the USCG as I work on ships. A young kid came out of a tank last week and started to show signs of heat stroke. We got him on oxygen and had him off the ship and into an ambulance in 20 min. He turned out alright but if we were at sea he probably would have been a goner for sure.

Me too! It was scary. I was there when he came out of the tank. They sat him down and his breathing became agonal. He passed out and we had to lay him down. Most of our training kicked in but we realized how much stuff we forgot. I’m just glad we were able to get him to a ambulance in a short order of time
