I was pleasantly surprised. I always get better deals when I have an older person as an accomplice. Lol

Thank you for that information. That was my guess due to it saying "leather trimmed".

Does everyone pay a $995 "destination" fee on a new toyota truck or is that negotiable?

Everything is negotiable, but it's been my experience that the destination fee is a tough one to get rid of once you've already got the vehicle itself down. You'll have a better chance with the $600 documentation fee since that's an admin fee added by the dealer to process your sale.

I just got my 2018 Tacoma TRD OF 4dr 4x4 on Saturday. I absolutely love this truck. I was driving a slammed 2006 Scion xA before this so it’s a huge upgrade!

Have you looked at the grill? Can you remove it, mod it, swap it out or is it connected to the TSS?

I haven’t used a forum in years and this is my first Taco. I haven’t really looked at it but the emblem is part of the TSS. I’m sure the 18 grill will fit a 2016-17.

If it's part of the TSS then you can't paint it or remove it completely and go aftermarket.

The emblem is apart of the TSS, the grill itself isn’t. I’d imagine you could swap grills, just not emblems.

Dealer has this charged in their invoice from Toyota too. So better to just negotiate the price down in general as the reduction in price is the reduction in price regardless of what you want to say you had them waive or remove. In the end you are paying how much ever you both agree to over or under their invoice anyway.

And of course dealer fees, such as doc fees, are there own animals and that is a separate negotiation. But this is where you really want to make sure you dont get jacked.

Lots of dealers will give the vehicle away only to nail you on fees, accessories, financing, etc.

That's why you have to look at someone's entire car deal. Someone may pay $1,000 less than you but then turn around and pay thousands more than you in financing alone. No one ever wants to talk about anything but the price paid, which often isn't the whole story.

Has anyone been able to order an 18 to their exact likings or is your dealer restricting you as to what you can get? I'm looking at getting an OR DC rwd but with the premium package (leather seats and all that). Idk if my dealer would order that for me or just restrict me to that package only being if I get 4wd.

It all depends on the allocation in your region. You dont truly order a vehicle with toyota. Your region elects to build certain configurations and offers them out to dealers and your dealer then tries to match your request to this allocation offering. This is sometimes why you have to settle for something close, especially if time is of the essence.

I got lucky and what I wanted was offered up by toyota and my dealer had open allocation.

The more specific your order is, the harder it can be to match up in this allocation process. Exotic colors, options, or equipment obviously make matching up more difficult with limited allocation.

Also since it both has to be offered by toyota and your dealer must have open allocation to match your order to the allotted offerings, a big volume dealer has an advantage, as with more allocation based upon the higher number of sales they have, gives them a better chance to match up your order, especially if you are in a hurry to do so.

Toyota is not like many other manufacturers where you place an order with the dealer and the manufacturer builds your exact vehicle for you, often placing your name on the window sticker even, because the vehicle was truly built from your order for you. This is a true custom order, but it is not how toyota handles orders.

A positive to this ordering process for the consumer is.. since this is an allocation based process, dealer's have or at least should have big incentive to be aggressive and sell, as they only earn allocation by selling. A vehicle just sitting, collecting dust on their lot, earns them nothing, and could hamper their long term ability to match a customer's specific request, as they must have open allocation to do so.

Long winded, but I hope it better explains the ordering/request process for you.

I know it is quite basic but I asked my dealer yesterday for a black Access Cab TRD Sport with MT. I asked for no add ons or extra anything. He looked around and sent me an invoice for one of their allocations exactly as I asked for that was due to be delivered in six weeks.

$1500 off MSRP is not great regardless of drivetrain and options. Of course that depends on where you live. Might be a great deal in California.

I just pulled up the e-brochure for the 2018 and it did not mention the use of softex (Toyota's synthetic leather) anywhere within. I'm not sure the leather in the '18 tacoma is any different than any other toyota that offers leather. The main seating part is actual leather and the rest is a vinyl that matches leather. That's how most non-luxury-brand "leather" seats are these days.
