Well the rear bumper on mine is totally cursed lol, read below, I've posted this on a couple forums

Just curious about this curse thing, as I was rear ended on Saturday in my Tacoma. Just a minor fender bender, I was stuck at a red light, idiot behind me was looking down, it was raining HARD, he slammed on the brakes in his big Chevy Avalanche, just tapped into me at maybe 5mph, skidded to a stop. Put two nice dents in my rear bumper, didn't push it in at all or anything, no damage to the tailgate or the bed. Dude was at least pretty damn cool about the thing, told me he was sorry, gave me his insurance info, told me he'd much rather me pay me cash than have this go against his insurance. Told me don't file an insurance claim, I said that was cool, let me get a quote from a body shop and I will get back to you.

Now my dad owned this truck before me, and this is literally the 3rd or 4th time its been hit in the rear, but it always clobbered the bumper, never the tailgate or bed. I remember the bumper being totally bent down one time, then being fixed. When I got it it the bumper had a big dent in it from somebody else hitting it, but I swear that was like the 3rd time somebody hit that truck in the rear before I owned it. Dad told me about a couple of the people who rear-ended him, one was some dumb novice 17 year old chick in an old Pontiac Grand Am or Grand Prix, busted the radiator out of that car. The other person was in a late model BMW 7 series, knocked out the hood, headlights, and grill on that car. I'm sure his insurance company loved that $5000+ at fault claim.

The reason I say its cursed, I just put on a new chrome bumper about 3 months ago, just to have it smashed YET again. Crazy thing was I put on some Tiawanese aftermarket chrome bumper, it was like $150. Went to Beaman Toyota's body shop(biggest Toyota dealer in Nashville) to get a quote, $652 for a new OEM Toyota chrome bumper, $57.20 in labor(it has 4 bolts, took like 20 minutes for two untrained idiots to replace it last time). I understand the labor thing, as usually most shops will charge you like an hour minimum, but HOLY CRAP $657 for a part I bought for $150 off Amazon.

Anyways, I will update this thread once I meet with the guy who hit me again. I'm thinking of telling him pay me $300, $150 for my time and $150 for the part, just because he's been cool about the whole thing. I know if I put a $657 bumper on the truck its going to get hit within a week lol.

Also props to Toyota engineers who designed the rear bumper on the 1995-2004 Tacoma. Its done its job and then some, still all original paint on the whole truck despite being hit 3 or 4 times in the back over 13 years.

My rear bumper has never been hit but, my front bumper has been 3 times- replaced once so far. I keep my hitch/ball in place for those who decide to tempt their fate.

And how much do those cost lol??? Its a 2wd/Reg cab/stripper type of truck, bumper is low compared to lifted 4wd rigs. I can get hit 3 times in the rear and put on aftermarket bumpers each time for less than the cost of one OEM bumper lol.

That's great and all until you bang your shin into the hitch ball sticking out. Might not be such an issue on a truck where you fold the tailgate down, but on SUV's with the hitch in, hatch up, its a real painful pain in the shin.

I've got more wounds/dings/dents/scars on my shins than you can shake a stick at. Between the hitch, my motorcycles and general life, there is at least 2-3 current wounds on my shins. From a casual look of my right shin- 2 scabs, 1 welt.

Well I'm not trying to be a member of jackass. Just saying people who leave that damn trailer hitch on when they don't use it are tools. It is one simple pull of a pin, why in the fuck are you banging your shins on it????

I have had, at least what my wife considered, a "cursed" truck. Had an 86 22-rte 4Runner many moons ago. Rig had 300k hard miles on the ticker. It had its share of problems; bad starter, bad alternator, etc... and all that comes with age, but my wife called it Christine - I think mostly because it broke down when she needed it to get to a job interview - so she will occasionally (15+ years later, lol) bring up the fact that it cost her a job once. For some reason, so doesn't blame HER car, which also happened to be broken down at the time... Ahh college....

I floated the idea of a 3.4L swap (drivetrain was solid, just the motor was toast), and she NOPED that rather quickly. She did say if I sold it, I could get that dirtbike I've been eyeing. Sold it the next day and drove to the bike dealer, lol...

I was also hit by a deer in my brand new (not even made a payment yet) '17 4Runner. Cursed? Maybe not, but just bad luck. Oh, I also backed into my own car, with my truck, in my driveway. That was not a shining moment in my life.

My truck has been hit on the rear relentless bumper three times. Each time I just get a can of black spray paint and touch up the tube bumper so that it does not rust. Each year I have to have it sandblasted and re-bed lined. Ive come out to tail light pieces everywhere from the car that hit it, never left any note. People are jabronies.

These rear bumpers are cursed. My dad asked me a couple of weeks ago if I bought a new bumper as it looked so good. I told him it was the stock one and I had just been careful with it for years. Should have knocked on some wood. 2 days later I bumped a telephone pole backing up in a tight alley. Dammit!:goingcrazy:

Check your local laws. That will get you a ticket in some states.

I ran without my rear bumper for about a month because I was building one. Two days after it was finish and installed, I backed into street sign pole (thanks to my huge blind spot provided by my softopper)

I got out saw a flake of paint missing looked at the pole (all bent and laughed)

    I call that good luck

@Aron9000 you can look at it both ways your cursed or you've gotten lucky multiple times. Damage could have been a lot worse.

If asking you to commit a crime by not reporting is cool I guess.
