No crime has actually been committed, though. It only becomes a crime if the owner of the damaged property files a police report, or if the incident was enough to attract the attention of law enforcement, where it becomes evident reckless driving/DUI etc... was involved.

Police could give two sh**s about a scratched bumper.

That would depend in your location. Where I worked there was no requirement to report minor crashes. They're pretty much a nuisance call for everyone working the street.

Nope. My Miata, is the love of my automotive life. But my Taco is the vehicle that I'll sell after I'm dead.

Meh, as long as nobody is hurt and the damage to either vehicle isn't excessive I don't see anything wrong with two people wanting to avoid the insurance headache. I had a lady in a BMW side swipe my car while it was parked once...she drove off (hit and run)...lucky for her I was at work and by the time I got to my car to see what had happened her husband had come by and was waiting there to tell me what she did. He was some hotshot movie producer and wanted to go the cash route. I called my insurance to inform them of the incident but told them I didn't want to file a claim, only to report that it happened in the event he backed out on his word (I had his info as well). My insurance company said that was fine and to let them know if I needed them.

I got a quote from a reputable body shop for $6k and the guy paid it straight up. Never went on either party's insurance. I did him a favor big time, he knew I could have gotten his wife into some serious shit for a hit and run but I respected him for owning up to it.

I always parked in the same spot next to my parents in high school - my parents backed into my car twice with their truck and both times it was after they drove it and left it in a different place. The first time they had it fixed and it looked brand new. The second time it got fixed, it looked good if you were standing 50 feet away. I guess they figured it was a matter of time before it happened again - it was cursed lol.

Haha, this happened a few years ago before I had my Tacoma. If that had happened to my truck I would've been wayyyy more pissed, lol.

    Uh, a tool box
Yeah that's true. Rear bumper is CURSED, rest of the truck is blessed. Original paint/body still looks great after 13 years and 185,000 miles of the commuter grind.

Dude we could be sitting there on the side of the road for 20, 30 minutes, maybe an hour waiting for a cop to come. Dude apologized and gave me his phone number and insurance info. Just a minor flesh wound on my truck, I don't even think it did anything to his Avalanche. If this guy was an asshole, I'd have called the cops right away.

BTW we settled on him paying me $400 for the parts and my time/hassle. He was pretty adamant about not making any sort of claim on his insurance, told me he has a CDL(which scares me a bit, glad he wasn't driving a loaded 80,000lb semi when he hit me)
