Hey there, I was wondering if anyone has had experienced the dreaded torq converter shudders. I have be trying to fix these vibrations in my tacoma for about the past year. I have replaced the carrier barring, and several u-joints. These things smoothed it out but did not get rid of them. Within the past months the truck seemed to begin to shudder at low rpms with a low load on the gas, and in any gear 3rd and up.
I have been to 3 different shops in search of a solution, and they all have told me something different. I have been told to preform the flash update on the truck, which did nothing. I was then told by the same shop that my torq converter needed replacing. After they quoted me $1900 for the job I left and went in search of another opinion.
The 2nd shop told me that in their experience replacing the torq converter never fixed these shudders and they recommend a full transmission rebuild or tranny swap.
I am hoping I want have todo a transmission swap, cause that would suck... My truck has 170,000 which is not bad from a Toyota stand point and am shocked that the tranny would need to be replaced. Any ideas or experiences out there?

Drain and fill the ATF; see if that'll help?

My torque converter was shuttering at about 40k miles. Slight throttle. 2012 4x4 by the way.

I had the same issue and had the dealer do a transmission fluid change, not flush. The factory fluid has friction modifier already in it and problem was eliminated. Even if fluid is 1/2 qt low, this problem can occur.

I would recommend going to a 1 piece drive shaft. I believe another TW member, ItalianStalion was able to fix his vibration/shudder issues through this.
