My truck is about 3 weeks old and I noticed some rust near the rear tire area on the drivers side. Is this normal? Or should I sand it and apply some fluid film?

Any exposed metal will rust if left to the elements. Wire brush the rust off and hit the exposed metal with rustoleum paint. If you live in the rust belt then consider using fluid film under the truck.

I’m pretty sure every truck will have a spot scratched up before too long on the undercarriage. Looks like just a spring there. If you want to sand it down to bare metal then paint it sure.

Personally, I’d just leave it. The oxidized layer provides some protection to the steel underneath. If you sand it bare then coat it with fluid film, you will always be chasing it. It will rust again and you will get bored of that sooner or later.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I live in central Texas so I should be okay with rust for the most part. I might use eldedo's advice and touch it up.

Clean it up, sand if you want, or use rust reformer. Then paint it, later fluid film it.

They just asked, if they are really worried about it some solutions were given.
If he decides not to care, he can just go on, but at least he got some ideas from others!
