need to learn more about this stuff
i've had mine for a month or 2 now and still haven't had the time to put them in. so annoying. need to get on it.

was wondering if anyone has posted in this huge amount of pages a full write up on the process, step by step, for the doors and tweeter. i've never done audio work on a car. but am a pretty handy person. also, would help if there is a really good one to have the link to it on the 1st post so that it is easy to find the essentials. OP did such a good job with a step by step of what he bought, etc. but a good solid step by step of install would be MUCH APPRECIATED!

The video is easy to watch and is far more easy to follow than written instructions imo. I had that playing on my phone (and played it several times) while doing the install.

    Alright time for questions!

I have had some Clarion 1.75 inch tweeters kicking around for a few months and I got a decent deal on 6x9 and 6.5 Hertz Energy speakers so I can straight up replace the speakers until I get the time to figure out the amp I want.

    Question 1:

I took off the A-Pillar and pulled out on of the stock tweeters and realized I will probably need a mount for my 1.75 inch tweeters + I will need an adapter (Been looking at ********* and around ... expensive to get shipped up here so I might try something else). Is there other options than building this myself?

Also will I need mounts for the other 4 speakers? I saw links to the "Metra" mounts and I'm guess those are the least expensive route.

    Question 2:

My plan was to get a pretty decent 5 channel amp to run the 6 speakers, in the next few months, then add a sub with bot next year. However, some videos seem to indicate the head-unit doesn't send out a very good frequency and it helps to alter it. Is that the case or is it better to just get a whole different headunit? I would rather keep the stock one if it's not too tough or expensive to just get the sound right out of it.

    Thanks all

I have made tweeter mounts out of balsa wood in the past. You could also make them out of polycarbonate. You will need adapters for the other 4 speakers as well. The metra mounts are fine, but you could make your own out of MDF or something else.

The stock entune headunit is surprisingly decent. All you really need is an amp with speaker level inputs. There are higher end options but if you don't want to spend a lot of money, just try it with an amp before you shell out of something you made not need.

Probably because the low end frequency response is 46 vs ~20 Hz for other 6x9s, so not as much low bass, and the Ref series has a 0db/3db switch for the tweeters. So, yes, sound could possibly be more shrill, esp. with +3db high freq. These may require a subwoofer for optimal sound, so that is in the plans for Phase II of the audio upgrade.

Ah, I see. I plan on doing a sub as well. I need to install my new speakers and see if I want to get an amp for them, if not I'll get my sub install started.

Not much too it, had to cut the front part of the bin out but it fits snug(no sliding around). Going to mess with the gain and crossover but this should hold me over until I get a 5 channel amp and DSP installed. Wired bass controller below and to the right on the steering column.

It really adds to the rest of the system. The passive radiator setup really helps with output compared to a similar sized sealed design. I was looking at the small underseat units but glad I found this instead.

Just pulled the trigger on the Crutchfield deal for the Kickers. $109 until 12/2. Ordered the Kicker tweeters yesterday for $89 on eBay. Will save the deadening for a later date, the doors seem easy enough to take apart. Between ceramic tint appointment tomorrow ($300), Morimoto fogs ($136) install after work today, and a Black Friday Sprint Booster last night($230), November has been quite pricey... Lots of saving compared to purchasing these items outside of these sales though. :)

Please post some pictures, I'm interested in where you're going to mount it and how you're going to wire it.
