It's likely Carter sounds like a sophisticated aristocrat compared to the locals from that area.

I am re-evaluating my on board repair/recovery/spare parts stuff. I think I remember seeing someone call it an "Oh Shit Kit" :p I want to be fully self sufficient in the case of an "oh shit" moment. Sure, i'm usually with a group, but you never know. Plus, I don't like relying on what someone else may or may not have.

Please help me think, make suggestions, and critique as you see fit.

    Tools
    1/2" drive ratchet
metric sockets - all the usual ones (think I could disassemble 90% of my truck with a 10 and 12mm)
36mm socket for cv axle nut
What other random sizes might be needed?
    Breaker bar
    metric wrenches
    assorted pliers
    channel locks
    pry bar
    BFH
    block of wood
    ether
    PB blaster
    valve stem core removal tool
    duct tape
    locktite
    zip ties
    jumper cables
    screw drivers

    Spare Parts

    CV axle
    valve stems
    valve stem cores
    tire plug kit
    Lower ball joint
    Lug nuts

I'm sure I've forgot a lot, but that's why I'm doing this... Let's hear it.

I don't see tow straps listed? What about a screwdriver, like the one with multiple tips. Gloves?

Slide hammer made great work at getting that damn CV out on the trail :notsure: Crowbar works just as good but not as efficient IMO.

    Impact if you've got it

    Various extensions and reducers possibly

    Locktite and various fluids

Yes! All of that is already on the truck. Just forgot to list it.
Don't have an impact. Yes on the extensions.

    Updating list. Thx!

Yeah, I figured you probably already had straps somewhere else. What are you using to carry your recovery gear in?

    My parts list is:

    OTRE's
    1 ITRE
    U-joint
Drive shaft (a little excessive for a first gen but still)

This is a cool tool to use in a pinch if you destroy a valve stem that doesn't require breaking the bead:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y1TQZK4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

IIRC the CV nut is 35 MM but 36 will work, but I try to use the 35 if I have it.

A jump pack is always good to have if you have a single battery.

A pitman puller is also nice to carry to change a tie rod or LBJ.

A couple of nice big tarps. One for laying on to do the work, and another to lay parts and tools on so you can see what and where everything is.
