Not sure the technical name for it but I broke the 10mm bolt that holds the coil and plug that goes on top of the spark plug. Anyone know what size it is? Length, TPI? I am positive I am not the only dumb person to do this.

Pull bolt from another coil to get the size.

How’d you break it? Did you break it while it was screwed in?

I was planning on doing that, but i would like to go get one after work. If I found out the size I can avoid that and save some time. If I don’t get a reply that gives the size I will post it for info after I get the size.

I am thinking I was a little sideways and it strained the bolt. Because I had a 10” extender on my socket wrench. Going to have to back it out now.

Lucky you. I broke the head off a Ford 150 spark plug. That was the freaking worst day ever. It was a common problem with f 150s 2004-2008

I just posted the same question yesterday. I put a self tapping screw in to hold the coil in place. Eventually I’ll take it out and either use an extractor or tap the hole.

I've had decent luck with the few Fords I have owned, but this well-known issue with the cyl heads/spark plugs, well it just hurts my head. Epic fail.

I never had this problem, I'm just saying it hurts my head to see this kind of ridiculous design failure from a major manufacturer.

You might ask Mike Likes Tacos as he indicated he did have this problem in post # 8, seems he found a fix although he did not state it outright.

On the Triton V-8, I believe the shade tree recommendation was to loosen the plug 1/4 turn, put a couple of tablespoons full of carburetor cleaner down the plug tube hole and let it sit overnight.
The next day, they come out like butter......
Never had to do it, just saw it on a Youtube video.

The trick is to run a decarbonizer through the intake. It helps

Thanks Guys that clears this up for me ..... If I had that crap designed plug system in my vehicle - I'd sell it.

I gave up on Fords in the 70's due to multiple v8's I had with bad crank shaft/bearings and would cause low oil pressure to the top of the engines.
