Do you have your 2nd hand 5-lug spacer kit that you bought some time ago? I thought you had re-sold it, and didn't install it on your vehicle.

That would make it a 3rd party opinion on spacer lifts.

Very useless indeed .. mines been on the truck for 2.5 years now... if you are keeping to the roads, not being stupid off-roading and doing other stuff that might threaten to bend your front struts from impact .. then it's a worthy upgrade option in a list of options that is quite short for our 5-lugs.

I did sell mine HackD, you are correct.

That being said, whether I have a spacer lift on my truck or not is irrelevant. The ride quality suffers quite a bit, and while you can certainly get by with this type of lift if you are only on the street or do fairly mild offroading, anything somewhat serious puts you at risk. These are simply the facts. A mid travel option, on the other hand, is a much different story.

In your particular case HackD, I would certainly see why you would want a front spacer lift. Your front ARB bumper had to have made the front sag quite a bit. For your setup and suspension it makes sense. For you it is not useless, but most five luggers don't have that extremely heavy front bumper.

Again, I'm simply stating my thoughts on spacer lifts from everything that I have read. Do I want the OP to not get a lift? No. I just want him to know all the facts before he goes through with it. I decided against it for the reasons I have stated. Others are welcome to their opinions.

    Fair enough.

Just a note on the ride quality - i have heard this comment a few times before - and am not sure what the basis of comparison is, beyond the stock ride. I personally do not find ride quality off, for my tastes - but my last truck two decades ago was an '88 F150 with F250 axles and suspension - and that bugger was the very definition of a harsh, bad quality ride.

Firm ride? - yes. Do potholes announce themselves quite harshly - yes... but our CDN grade potholes are going to pose issues to any vehicle with the misfortune to hammer into them. Have i done damage to date? No. Ride characteristics are very much an individual thing - there is nothing to date, that makes me regret installing the economic solution.

Would i love to go mid-travel? Given the opportunity to pick up a kit, yes... but with the kits discontinued, that is a hard parts kit to find now.

    FWIW.

As someone who had a 2.75" spacer and now a 3" I can say I havnt had any issue and I thrash my truck. Suspension will suffer the most if you leave it stock. The stock shocks are garbag and depending on you trucks milage/year may be blown anyways. Don't even get me started on the sway bar that rocks you back and forth on every bump on the highway.

The spacer lift is also called a leveling kit which should make the truck level. The aal in the back will increase your carrying capacity since our leaf springs are already soft as it is. Like I said in my previous post if you piece out your kit it won't be as expensive. Also it never seems "rough" stiffer yes but thats good when you can corner faster on the road and have a lot less body roll. (You know that feeling when you have to slow down more while going down a highway ramp because you've got body roll like a mother fucker)

The lift kits for 5 lugs arnt for everyone but to say it's dangerous or ruins the ride I wouldn't agree at all. Most 5 lugs who do lift follow this path with a handful that go mid travel and like 4 off the topic of my head that go long travel. Good luck with the build and congrats on the truck. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask as most of us have been there and don't that lol.

Heres my truck to add some more pictures to the thread lol

Spacer lift is the only sketchy part of our suspension. But there are plenty of ways to properly do the suspension on our trucks. Now that being said, these routes aren't exactly cheap.

Today, on Tacoma spotting with Charlie, we see this beautiful beautiful MGM 2011 AC SR5 V6 4x4!

There's something different about the grill that I can't quite describe that makes it easy to tell a 2011 from a 2005-2010...

My boss has a dog named Tully and she was busy, so she sent me to the vet to pick up Tully's meds. This made my day!

    image.jpg

The owner wasn't allowing anyone to touch the new puppy, to prevent the spread of disease. However, she invited everyone in the vet's office to take all the pictures they wanted!

This was good enough for me...

    image.jpg

This male Double Doodle is an only child. There were no dead puppies. He was the only puppy born, and the mother's owner intends on keeping him...

    image.jpg

The mother's name is Zoe, and she is a Golden Doodle. The father was either another Retriever/Poodle mix or purebred standard Poodle, hence the name Double Doodle. The new puppy will probably be named Ranger, as in The Lone Ranger, since he was the only one.

    Here's a picture of 4-year old Zoe...

Damn man my first gen had this same bumper from D. Took about 9 months to get it as I it took a while for him to get a truck to build it off of. I def miss that beast of a bumper.

I don't know if this is really an Asperger's thing or more of a Charlie thing, but I am a bit anti-authority. Not anti-authoritarian...

Everybody, myself included, is anti-authoritarian to some extent. We law-abiding citizens just want to go about our day-to-day lives without obnoxious things like DUI checkpoints getting in the way...

That said, just because I am a bit anti-authority does not mean I am disrespectful. I know how to handle myself when and where it matters, like with cops. I've never been arrested in my life, ever.

I am 99% sure this can be traced back to elementary school, and it reached its absolute peak from 6th grade through 10th grade (2000-2005). The most common scenario is that I would be bullied by other kids quite frequently, and I would try to do the right thing and tell a teacher. There was rarely much the teacher could do. The bullying and teasing would continue, and I would end up losing my temper and physically assaulting whoever was picking on me. Sometimes I got away with it, but most of the time I got in trouble. I've been suspended twice (one in-school in 6th grade and once out-of-school in 8th grade) for "assaulting" another student who was picking on me.

I've also had numerous cases where the bully turns the tables on me and play the victim. One time in 4th grade, this girl named Courtney said I hit her when I most certainly did not, and like three other kids backed up her story. A couple of those kids I would classify as fair-weather friends, who would be friends one day and tease me the next. This was literally almost twenty years ago (1998-1999), so I have no way of remembering what started it, but I do remember the punishment. All students waited in their classroom until their bus arrived, and I loved to draw pictures of trucks while I waited. This incident took place towards the end of the day. My teacher (a lovely recently-married brunette named Mrs. Hudak, then about 26), who despite that little fiasco was one of my favorite teachers ever, punished me by making sit with my head down until my bus came, and I was not allowed to draw. I don't know what I told my parents, but I don't remember getting in trouble. On top of that, they weren't there, so they just believed my story...
