I could have sworn this was an easy job. The tack welded nuts are on the bracket itself, if you remove the bracket then you don’t need to worry about the nuts. I haven’t gotten around to doing this yet though.

It looks like it does add some stability to the frame and/or protection, true?

It mounts to a single cross member. It adds no support to anything. Unbolt it and take it off if you want. Yes the nuts are welded to the brackets, Turn the bolts with a 12mm socket from underneath. No bed removal is not necessary.

I tried again...gonna need an air gun when I get it on a lift. 2 nuts on both sides of the bracket that mount to the frame. I want to take the complete bracket off, not just the two braces that hold the spare tire

I lost my mind, I guess I'm talking about the cross member that has 2 bolts/nuts on both sides. I was going to remove that...lol

Yeah, I wouldn't remove the crossmember. That'll mess up the rear of the frame real quick.

The tire hoist thing in the middle is held on by 4 bolts on top. You can also take off the 2 brackets that center the tire. They bolt from the top too. Don't take off the cross member. There are 5 bolts per side. It doesn't have that many bolts just to hold it on. It prevents the frame from twisting.

Just removed both brackets and I had to torch off the hanger hoist wire cable. Looks so clean now

As for the complete tire hoist, the bolts were above with no room to get a socket in. Seems like you have to have the bed off (lol)...but a poster mentioned box end wrench, still don't know how that will fit in place

You might find some in the Southwest or make your own.
