I would be excited if this was a non-bastardized EPA version. but alas I am sure it will have DEF, DFP, and all the other goodies that ruin modern diesels.

No thanks, I'll stick with gas and hope Toyota brings in a KERS systems years from now that provides instant torque through electric motors/batteries.

No way they would put a Diesel in a Tundra. If they did you'd hear about a diesel in the works years prior. I'm guessing they weren't overly impressed with the 5.0 Cummins that's why Nissan got it.

Ram/ Fiat got it right with the eco diesel, 30mpg 1/2 ton truck is what people want, not 500ftlbs. Save the big numbers for the 3/4 an 1 tons.

The only update I expect in the next few years out of Tundra, is a design refresh and an 8-Speed Auto that the Land Cruiser is getting.

If its going to be on the road, it will have emissions regulation equipment. Our tractor is even tier IV compliant meaning it has emissions stuff on it, its the future.

Cummins has been looking for a contract customer for its 2.8 L R series engine. I wouldn’t be surprised if Toyota or Nissan sign a deal for it.

Yes and very expensive if anything goes wrong. Kinda why I'm hesitant about a modern diesel.

I remember seeing a interview with the lead engineer for the Tacoma platform, he said very clearly, no. it would cost so much that the premium for buyers would be 6k more

Except for the very tiny possibility of a diesel in the Tundra at some point in some distant alternate universe.....a diesel in any other Toyota product in North America?

It's still all speculation at this point as it has been for years now. Toyota needs to introduce a Tundra HD model that includes a diesel comparable to the Cummins, Duramax and PowerStroke. They would move off the lots so quickly. Next from there would be diesels offered in the Tacoma and 4Runner. It's still mind-boggling to me how Toyota hasn't done this yet they have a very capable full size truck in the Tundra that competes with the big 4.

If this is true I'd be stoked.....well, another year for release and 2 years for them to get the kinks worked out so I still have at least 3 years with my current build...:D

You and OP seem convinced. What are some of his most notable past predictions?

Not predictions that I know of,

His dealings with Toyota on a business level.

He worked for years in the parts business for Toyota, then privately now. If my memory recalls?

You can call him up and tell him what your doing and what you need and he can source about anything related that most dealers wouldn’t know to include.

He is VERY VERY well connected in his dealings with Toyota.

Oh nice. It makes me wonder though, do parts dealers get the news ahead of Toyota issuing it's press release? And is that news shared with them via a non-disclosure agreement?

I would argue Ram/Fiat got it right since they couldn't sell 2017s for majority of the year due to the engine not being compliant.

I also used to be a diesel fan but with all the regulations in place it's too complex. Honestly I would have paid a premium on my Tacoma to have the "old" 4.7L V8 option that's in my brother's 2003 4Runner.

Any good deals on airfare to Costa Rica?

If the diesel is in the tundra then maybe it will get above 15 MPG for once in it's life, and maybe they'll beef up the truck to be capable as a 1/2 ton truck, it's bigger than a 1/2 ton truck but doesn't have the capability of one.
