When I was on the right coast, torrential downpours I would use 4hi on the highways, biways and backroads just in case. Never had issues. Out in the desert only off pavement unless going dead straight. It won’t help on black ice. I used 4lo and the rear locker on my 99 extended cab Ted off road once trying to pull a dodge 2wd out of the mud, he wound up calling a tow truck (I should have had a winch instead)

Your ears will tell you when you're approaching the "speed limit" in 4lo. Now, there's something you won't find in the manual.

Is the only difference between 4 hi and lo
that you have more torque in low? Give me an example of when I'd want to use 4lo in snow (or tell me "hey, dumbass, you'd never need 4lo in snow").

In all the driving I've done over the years in mud, pastures, cornfields, snow... 4 High does the trick. I've never felt compelled to go beyond 4hi.

Higher torque less speed. Although you could do 40mph with it probably not the best. You'll be revving high. Better off being in 4hi

Where I go off its all slow crawling so I never go faster than second gear

First gear 4lo will crawl down a hill with no need to press the brakes.

OK, which page of the manual that COMES WITH THE TRUCK does it talk about spacer lifts? I think I missed that page.

Reading the documentation from the manufacturer doesn't give you confidence but listening to a bunch of yahoos on the internet does? Strange.

Pro tip: Once a month you're supposed to put your truck in 4L and turn sharply into and out of parking spots at least ten times. It helps keep everything lubed.

biggest thing you want to avoid in most scenarios is axle wrap that makes for some rougher riding / noise. this happens when you are running in 4wd and screw up your driveline when the wheels can't slip. I love that I can throw it in 4H while driving (moderate speeds, generally) if the need arises then quickly shut it back off. Getting your monthly miles in on a 4x4 really is important though. If I can't get offroad, I'll do it in the rain for a few miles, if no rain, I'll at least engage 4H on a COMPLETELY STRAIGHT/FLAT stretch of pavement for a bit just to keep things lubed. that said the truck does have several failsafes just don't be stupid with it and you'll be fine. now GO GET it dirty and use it for its intended purpose!

I use 4WD a lot in Winter. It's also good to engage it periodically if not used frequently. Also i avoid cutting the wheel sharply like into a parking space, I take it out of 4WD. 4lo I use to crawl up our cabin driveway in deep snow or ripping out small stumps or bushes.

Let me make this brutally clear. This forum has members of all walks and all kinds of rigs. Not everyone is an expert. Not everyone buys a vehicle brand new with a shiny owners manual. Not everyone has English as a first language. TacomaWorld was founded on welcoming advise from everyone, novice to expert. If you have nothing constructive to provide, you can very easily move onto the next thread and not say anything at all. If you have no control over your fingers on the keyboard and simply can't help yourself from posting useless bullshit in a thread from a member asking genuine questions, the staff will gladly assist you in the future.

Enjoy your holiday. And for the record, he asked several questions, not all of which are covered in the manual. Some of the questions are subjective and some are eliciting a response based on experience.

So, you actually think owners manuals for everything you've ever owned is a comprehensive compendium of knowledge? Like I said it's great to hear from people with expertise on the topic.

For being relatively new with only 5 posts, you sure seem rather cocksure and sassy.
