What fuel additives, if any, would you all recommend for a 1st gen Yotas?

I've read contradictory advice on fuel injector cleaners. Some say they do more harm than good.

Are there products out there that are legit?

I use BG fuel additives. BG also offers a very effective fuel injection service, makes a big improvement on my high mileage 3.4's.

I use Lucas oil on most of my fillups, but of course I can't really tell if it's actually doing anything... Would need a borescope to see carbon deposits in the chamber.

Used em all over the years the old Slick 50 used to work, now its all about Royal purps big ol bottle of Max clean injector cleaner..its all that works to clean injectors, and combustion, theres boroscope pics of tests on diff cleaners used on you tube by a guy with a scope check it out. After running it through the tank my truck starts better and gets better mpg and more pep. IMHO

I just changed my oil 2 weeks ago, don't you have to change your oil after you use BG44? I hear conflicting reports on that

I'm curious where you read that it did harm then good. I've used it on all my rides.

Techron, Red Line and BG all make suitable injection cleaners and top end carbon deposit removers.

Running a bottle of whichever is on sale every 10k, prior to an oil change, should at best clean up some real problem stuff, at worst serve as a preventative with a light cleaning.

Knowing how to 'read' spark plugs can tell a lot, as can a budget bore scope that attaches to your cell phone. And if you fill up every time you need fuel, then calculate mpg and average it over time, you can see if any changes have occured that might require attention.

Ditto, BG for the win. I've used their products for years,,,, the professional shops are the ones that I learned about the BG prod. line. They use to have exclusive use of the prod until it was opened up to the public.

That's a new one I haven't heard,, if you're talking about the BG44k,,, it goes in the fuel tank,, just don't spill it on your paint if you like your paint job:), use this about every 15,000 miles. Now their full injection service, which normally has to be done by a shop that has their equipment is the top of the line fuel service cleaner,,, inj's., intake, right on down the line on the fuel supply side. I've heard some stories of a "cat failure" on the emission test come back to life becasue of this cleaner on it's way out the exhaust and actually pass the test.

You might be thinking of their 109 or as it's now called EPR, which stands for engine performance restore,,,, I've used that in my taco to cut down on the oil consumption,,, now that you have to put in the oil,,, before changing,,,, run for about 20 minutes then drop the oil out. Talk about nasty, what it does is clean the oil ring and compression rings on the pistons,,, helped my consumption about 30% on my taco.

I have my 3/4 ton dodge cummins on their their warranty program which all that is changing fluids,, they will warranty whatever part their fluid is in for the life of the vehicle, as long as you do it every 30,000 miles. Anything, doesn't matter how old the vehicle is as long as you start it before 36,000 miles. Full warranty, 75,000 miles is half warranty. I have my radiator, brakes, auto trans, diff's, and transfer case on it. Unlimited mileage also,,, also you can do the engine, but I didn't because it was my hunting truck and I new there'd be a time I couldn't get the motor oil changed on the road in time.

These fluid changes I do any way, so it's a no brainer for me on the dodge, but the taco I bought used so it didn't fall under their warranty specs as far as mileage goes but I still use all their fuel service stuff in both of them. My wifes new Highlander will go on the program to when she get's the 36,000 mile mark,,, all of it. The ONLY draw back is you have to have the shop do the install/clean do be eligible for the warranty because it has to be documented.

And no, I don't work for BG, retired welder, I just believe in their stuff.

This is me doing a BG fuel injection service to my wife's 02 4runner right after i purchased it with 86k miles a few years ago. Some nasty greyish junk comes out the tailpipe when that chemical is being processed thru the engine. Makes a big improvement on all my vehicles. I also do BG trans fluid exchanges on all my vehicles. The BG trans machine works of the transmission's own pressure, no added pressure like a "trans flush" machine.

The trans fluid before & after the fluid exchange. I also installed a external trans cooler.

I just run Amsoil PI every 4000 miles like they recommend. Have used 'em all over the years. I've used Sea Foam a couple of times since I got the Taco but it never made any difference and I hardly got any smoke out of it at all after the first time I used it and follow ups with the PI every 4000 miles. I notice a slight benefit with the PI sometimes and other times I don't. I suspect my engine is pretty clean inside considering my driving habits which are mostly highway at operating temp or a few hours off road at operating temp.
