I need to look into this as well. Haven’t gotten any letters but I’ve definitely got some vibes. Been greasing the joints but still vibes under throttle

I wonder why this isn't all of the model years? I have a 12 and I have the same 15-25 mph vibes that my 11 had, that they issued the TSB for.

    Or is this entirely different?

Got the letter for my X-Runner. I have had a vibration under anything over half throttle since I bought the truck.

Will be taking it in when I get a chance.

Just took my'05 in and I'm getting 3 new universal joints. Hope this helps with the vibes, also wonder if it's why I needed to replace pinion bearing earlier this year

My driveshaft on my tacoma doesn't, but my '08 4runner has them on both the driveshaft and u joints. I've changed my u joints on the tacoma a couple times along with carrier bearing. The new u joints have grease fittings, and they get greased every oil change.

    Follow up:

Took the truck in for inspection and they found no problem with the U-joints. No charge.

Looks like I'm doing a wheel bearing instead...

"No problem found" with my X-runner either.
Was told that the vibrations I am feeling were associated with the aftermarket (not cheap, properly hub centric) wheels.
I called bullshit, that it did the same thing since I got the truck (came with OEM wheels/tires), they still said no dice.
    Not super happy about it.

I got my letter this week (2nd week Jan 2018).
Truck started rattling at around 90k miles usually around 25mph-30mph.
Truck is at 97k miles currently.

Made an appointment at my local dealership and showed them the letter.
They did and inspection and said the would not charge me for the analysis ($180) as long as the source of the rattling was the propeller driveshaft. They immediately asked me that if I agreed to have the $180 inspection ahead of time it wouldn't be added to the repair bill of w.e. else would be causing the rattling. I figured no matter what they found they were going to try to have a lunge at my wallet.

After waiting for a couple of hours they said that there are possible multiple sources of vibrations.
    1. Break-pads, rotors, and calipers may be "loose" because they're not OEM. So they maybe causing some of the rattling. Recommended that I get them change even though they're new and only had about 10k miles of use. Cost: $596.95
    2. Tires are not balanced. (A reasonable possibility) Cost: $89.95
    Total: $686.90 + Tax

So because there are two other possible sources of vibration they cannot identify that the propeller shaft is the source of the rattling (its more of an all throughout shake actually). A little disappointed that a Master Technician backed with the tools of a proper dealership's service center can't identify whether or not the properller shaft is in a position/condition where it would cause a rattle/shake distinct to the "brakes being lose" or unbalanced tires.

I made an appointment with another dealership.
I hope they can identify whether or not the propeller shaft needs replacing or not.
Hope you guys are having better luck so far!

Whoa! That sucks. Hate when they do that, try to blame non Oem parts, but charge 4-5x more for them.
On the other hand, you seem to agree somewhat that it might not be the propeller shaft. Just seems to me that a good mechanic with a truck on a hoist could wiggle/find the problem.
$180 analysis? Wow! I get dinged at $107 or something like that, here in Ontario.

Some dealerships are better than others.

I don't understand the charge for the analysis. It's a warranty replacement by Toyota. They are paying the dealerships to do the work.

Just got my letter today and I have been noticing the u joint squeaking last week and have been trying to pinpoint which one. Does anyone know if I have just a small spacer leveling kit it the front if it would void any recall? Should I take my spacers off and go to the dealer?

I just got my letter in the mail today, after replacing all 3 u-joints couple months ago (2 were bad, so figured I mightiest well replace all 3 at the same time).

I wonder if this covers the carrier bearing as well. Kind of nervous of getting stuck with a diagnosis fee if they try say its the replaced u joints.
