I' very torn right now, any body from ther north with experience between solid axle and long travel? I can fabricate so that is not an issue just performance on and off road.

I guess what I'm really asking is which will perform better in this environment? I really like long travel but am leaning towards a SAS for practicality.

I want to be able to do eveything but i really cant think of any where where i could go high speed arund here.

if it was me, i would just sas it. it can be made stronger for less money then a LT truck. you can also get it to handle quite well with proper shock tuning. just get your check book ready lol

where i live, i wouldnt bother as i do more fast desert stuff then anything. I also have a fj40 rock crawler so i use that lol

X2. SAS and 4Ds for the most fun you can have. I have DD a SASed 90s truck on Ca highways an hour each way for a few years and it was completely doable. After getting the bugs worked out, I spent a lot less time wrenching on it than any of my ifs rigs. Only thing that keeps me having an ifs rig is that the wife needs something to drive when it snows.

Most of the trails ive been through so far have been through forest trails, mud bogs, some technical stuff, nothing crazy, now that it's payed off I would like to have more fun though. Also it has a drop bracket that I hate.

Yeah the Sas is the way I'm leaning. I think it may be more realistic for the kind of stuff we have around here. Plus I hate winter as I have no winter hobbies. Which Is the reason I'd like to get into snow wheeling.

Way easier to run big winter tires with a sas than ifs. I would run 35s for the street and then 39" iroks or 40 mtrs for the weekend. You will push snow with your axle, but nothing like how it bogs down ifs rigs.

Tires will make a huge difference in how a sased rig handles. I would get lazy and leave my wheeling tires on for a few months and then be shocked about how well it handled when i went back to a more mild street tire with no suspension changes.

I've never been wheeling in your neck of the woods but I don't think you can ever go wrong with a SAS for offroad. I think the only time an IFS is going to outperform a real axle is for high speed stuff whether on road or off.
