The horn on my 2011 4x4 recently quit. so after looking around I picked up on some diligent Tacoma owners research and came up with the Tacoma original part # for the clockspring cable assembly (OEM 84306-0E010). Before going to the dealer for a CA$ 500.00 shot for this repair job I ordered a cheap after market unit and will attempt to install it myself. Does any body out there in the Tacoma World have any experience as to the goodness/badness of that type of offshore replacement part? (Horn works off the pocket fob).

What manufacturer made the replacement clockspring assembly? There are some good aftermarket manufacturers out there, and there are some pretty bad ones. (Dorman comes to mind with the latter.)

Nobody has replied, so I will bring this back to life.

I have replaced the stupid clockspring 4 times about to replace it again, the horn just stops working. I had the dealer replace it, lasted about a year, I bought aftermarket, lasted 6 months to a year. Last time i bought OEM and again, less than a year and the horn isn't working.
Nothing else fails, just the horn.

Aftermarket stuff seems to be equal to the OEM

What would you like us to say?

    Someone is doing it wrong.
You could run an external circuit for the horn and have a push button on the dash.

Sounds like a possible fitment / installation issue to me. Can you tell us exactly what is failing on the clockspring?

Funny that comment about the external push button circuit. That was the first thing coming to mind when the dealer started mumbling about a possible Can$ 500 bill for clockspring replacement.
