Plot twist: the guy that said it has the best write up on TW for swapping a 98-00 clip to a 96-97 clip which I'm following for my truck. The thing started when someone said that they were going to convert to 4x4 and then 4 banger to V6. The guy making the comment didn't know who he was talking to - the young guy who will eventually be the chief engineer on the 6th gen Tacoma. That said I told him to do the engine swap first and then 4x4 after since you'll only be swapping driveshafts and other ancillary stuff once, but as has been said, "Can't fight against the youth."

Sorry if this was answered elsewhere but what range do you guys have? Trying to decide between the 10-150 or the 25-250. Aren't spark plugs around 15 so would that be about the low end I need? Thanks.

10-150 is better because it will fit in more places and the only bolt that really can't be done with it is the crank pulley bolt. That said I have both since I have to do that one eventually and also a decent Amazon purchased inch pound one.

Perfect. Ordered. I'm slowly building up the toolkit. I've been using a 3/8" drive torque wrench from HF and hoping this will be a bit of an upgrade range and accuracy wise.

I've had that one for three years with great results - I recommend getting some 1/2" drive deep sockets since you'll come across enough things that need to be torqued that require deep sockets. Anything with 10,12,14,17,19,21,22,24mm should be good.

Awesome. Yeah I've bought a couple deep sockets as I've needed them but I should probably just pony up for a set. Kinda tough right now since I'm in grad school but I'll be done and working again come April so hopefully I will be doing more modding and wrenching. Thanks for the help!

This is the set I have:

I feel your pain though - this semester will hopefully be my last after 9 straight years in school. Lol

Added to my watchlist. 9?! Ouch. Took ~5 years off after my undergrad and it has been hard to go back. Luckily it's only a 18 month program. Good luck man! I'm told this school thing will all be worth it....

Thanks brother. Yeah I can't wait to only have to worry about work when it comes to taking time away from wrenching on my truck lol. 18 months should be done before you know it - probably because you won't have any free time to think about what's going on in your life lol!

Pshh, bought a 2002 4x4 Tacoma wrecked for $500 spent about a week putting a new front clip on for another $500. And there you go, new truck and 4x4 for less than $1500

How can you get an engine to start without the transmission connected, could you bolt up the starter without the trans connected? Talking about a 3.4. I just want to see it run before I go any further. No accessories are bolted on - no coolant - just want to fire her up momentarily and then proceed.

TBF, I don’t spend too much time on TW outside of this thread but the group in here has always been helpful when/if I have questions...even though I’m sure a couple of them have been dumb noob questions I’ve always received helpful non-dickish responses.

Local starter alternator repair shop had the starter contacts and plunger units stock. $15 buck later, starts like new. :bananadance: Worst part was getting the damn tranny dip stick tube bolt in :censored:.

Took three goddamn days to do my upper ball joints. Next time I'm buying a hydraulic press, seriously. What a pain in the absolute ass.

That being said, it's done. Thank God. In the process of being clamped I disfigured the dust shield beyond recognition so I hammered back into something that resembled a semi circle and sanded + painted it with POR15 just because I can't stand having an ugly dust shield.

I forgot to take pictures of it when I painted it. Once it's dry I'll update.

    IMG_6011.jpg IMG_6013.jpg IMG_6012.jpg

I was about to use Bondo on it to make it pretty then I stopped and thought to myself why the hell am I doing body work on a goddamn brake dust shield and dropped that idea so fast.
