    EDIT: Round Two Begins Here
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...off-road-trailer.526081/page-26#post-21079349

So, I found this little trailer on CL while looking for a larger utility trailer. I don’t know why, as it’s not what I need at all, but I had to have it. Too fun a project to pass on.

The story is that the original owner used this once a year for a family camping trip. It had been sitting since 1987. That’s the year of the plate decal.

My plan is to build a real frame and put the box on it, new axle, 35’s to match my truck, re-skin the top (it was very crinkled from being collapsed at some point), paint it the original grey, re-letter and stripe it, widen the original fenders, & keep it as original looking as possible while making it an off road trailer. MAYBE a tent rack over top.

I brought it home yesterday and tore it down. I need to order the axle and steel. I’m heading to NH for a couple of weeks and will start the build when I get home.

Lol! Right? Those tires have been sitting since 1987. One was the spare and was really nice. No cracks, nubbies still on it. The other? Not so much... it was so dry rotted and cracked, I was sure I’d be dragging it on the rim becfore making it home. It made it all 25 miles though. I was pleasantly surprised.

I was behaving myself, scouring CL for a practical utility trailer. I really was. Then, I saw this thing. I knew what I wanted to do with it immediately.

It definitely has a cool nostalgia heir about it. I don't ever remember seeing one before.

He remembers when they came out! Cars used to cost $600. If you made $2k per year you were rich!

Tim, this reminds me of the jump seat of a Model A. Or maybe you should make it open like that, but with hydraulic struts like the redline ones.

I’m planning to use struts

It already is made to open at the back and hinge at the front.

I actually wanted one of my own for a project. But i feel like it was one of those things that you find in someone's yard, and offer them cash on the spot for.. not like they were looking to sell it.

Ive had my fair share of facing backwards in a car. When I was a kid, the parents only got wagons with rear seats. And my uncle had a 96 Camry wagon. That had trunk seats and dual wipers for the back window
