I only have windows movie maker. I tried the GoPro video editor app but I could never get my files to load in. So I'm ordering my MacBook Pro today lol

I tried using windows movie maker several years ago with my go pro footage, I wasn't a fan.

It's the worst. I've managed a few decent videos but nothing spectacular. Also my flying and footage isn't that great either

My footage isn't very good either.
My cousin on the other hands flys professionally, this is a little of what he has done, as far as I know he does all the editing and such himself.

Reading through Dell's specs the system (MoBo) can have up to 16GB.
Here are the specs for the MoBo as far as expansion slots.

Ah ok. I didn't read too far in depth. 16 is alright. I believe it comes with 8, so you would probably need to buy new RAM sticks. Not sure if it only holds 2 or 4. Probably better off getting two new 8gig sticks for it. If you can I'd look for something with 32

Ok, I’ll start a digital list of parts so I know if it’s doable, if I were to get a MacBook it would be free (or mostly free) for me, however the pc I would have to pay for.

That’s what I say about all of my hobbies, truck, equipment, guns, reloading, hunting, technology, I don’t think I have a cheap hobby.

That computer above will let you browse the internet. If you are doing video and photo editing moar cpu, ram and video card means faster editing...especially video. The more ram you have the more pics you can have open in your photo editor. Powerful CPU and video card will help with video editing. If your plan is video and photo editing only...then MAC is a clear winner in that department. But if you want to do anything else PC is the way to go.

The difference in the i5 vs i7 in a laptop is small, but huge for a desktop.

I put together the desktop I have. 4790k @ 4.7ghz with 32gb of RAM. Still a decent setup I think. I don't game on it, so it only had a GTX 550Ti.

I also have a ThinkPad 14". It only had a i5-6200U with 8gb of RAM and a 256gb SSD. Not the most powerful, but very well built. It has a nice screen, and nice to type on. My only complaint is I wish it came with 16gb of RAM out of the box (ram is upgradable)

I run Linux on both machines.

I have a similar machine as you @95 taco, a Mid-2012 MBP. I have the 2.6GHz i7, though. I maxed out the RAM to 16GB and put in a 1TB SSD, since this is one of the last MBPs that you can upgrade. I run High Sierra and it's snappy enough. Throwing a couple of hundred in upgrades might get you some breathing time, although yours sounds like it might already be dying.

In disclosure, I don't push the limits with mine. Some CAD (mostly 2D), schematic capture, PCB layout, embedded coding, an OpenSUSE and a Windows 7 VM. Nothing that's going to tax it like video editing.

Bought a used Dell desktop with I5 3470, 1TB hdd, win 10 PRO, GTX 1050 TI 4GB graphics card, and 12 GB (3x4GB) RAM, as well as a wireless card, just under $400 for it all, if it doesn't work I'll sell it and move up but I think it will work for my needs.

The RAM will go up to 16GB, I'll eventually bump it up, or I may end up building another rig before then.
