    Hi all,

I've recently had a 2002 TRD Tacoma given to me (belonged to a now deceased family member). Automatic 3.4l with the a340f transmission I believe. The 3rd gear is just about toast, crazy noises so I'm only able to mow the thing around 35mph tops in the 2nd gear.

Pouring some coin into this to get it happy again, the rest of the truck isn't bad at all and it has really low miles (112k, 1 owner Washington owned).

Would like to get the transmission rebuilt (willing to fork up the ~3 grand), I'm assuming a dealership is the best bet for this. My concern is I don't know what Toyota dealerships around here are reputable for service, I've had friends who've worked at other dealerships and understand the revolving doors that happen there.

Can anyone recommend a decent Toyota dealership around here that does good service? I'm located just North of Seattle and am willing to tow the car wherever to get the right service done. Cheers

I would probably go to a specialty transmission shop. I'd only go to a dealer if any parts were covered under warranty or if I wanted to have a brand new trans installed. But that's just me.

You may want to ask around people you know to see if they recommend any good trans shops. It's worth getting a quote from them to compare to a dealer quote.

Toyota will not rebuild just replace is my bet. If they rebuild, odds are it's subbed out.

You need a quality independant shop to do a rebuild.

And finding a modest miles used unit and doing a swap is another option.

All-star Transmission in SeaTac put a new transmission in my truck. I was happy with the service, they had a clean and professional shop, and they do offer a warranty.

Find a tranny shop. Or purchase a rebuild one. Won't trust the stealership with a job like that.

Fair enough. thanks all, does anyone have a tranny shop suggestion around the everett/Lynnwood/Seattle area? SeaTac is a little deep per the suggestion but if they do the right work I could probably make it happen.

Edit: there’s 20+ specialty transmission shops up and down highway 99. I’m having a really really difficult time narrowing down which, if any, are worth the trip. Like any shop there’s always a handful of haunting reviews, and like any owner I just want things done right. I understand it’s a risk taking anything to anyone, though.

Brian why’d you need a new tranny?

Body shop didn’t clamp transmission fluid hoses in correctly and they dumped the fluid and wrecked the transmission.
